Possession has slipped from Q1 2025 to Q4 2025 since the update earlier this year, and despite saying 'Summer 2024' on their website.

Source.

They've also updated their website with some new construction photos.

Saw a few excavators on site. Might be for the LRT or the pedestrian bridge but it's nice to see things happening.

I walked by there earlier today. I can just about assure everyone that the vehicles on site are limited to the overpass and possibly supplementing the Bayview platform. 2 Taggart excavators and a handful of small trucks.

No piling equipment or anything like that yet.

Its pretty amazing to see what is going on in Ottawa. Aside from Toronto and Montreal, the growth for a city this size is amazing. I know that this project is around the corner. They have worked very hard to climb through all the obstacles. The seemed to have crossed most of them. Keep in mind though, I remember them clearing the land 5 years ago. I saw a bunch of bulldozers the other day. I hope they start soon, as I think this will be gateway to whole bunch of other interesting venues and things to do around town.

If I’m reading slide 16 correctly, construction won’t begin until at least the first half of 2023. I’m losing interest in this project.

I blame Stage 2 Trillium. They may not want to start anything until they know SNC will no longer need to use their site as a staging area.

And to think Melnyk (supposedly) cancelled the Lebreton project over this development...

Just trying to be optimistic here although im starting to lose hope as well, but technically First half of 2023 could mean only a year from now

Arena would be completed by now, and for far cheaper than what it could be built today. A few towers would have been built. No competition from 900 Albert thus far.

God, I hate Melnyk so much right now. What a waste of what would've transformed the lens of the city. I wish he never won the proposal because all he did was waste everyone's time.

Historically I have despised Mr. Melnyk as owner of the senators and the way this Lebreton project was mangled. Because I really really wanted to see it happen. But...

If I was Mr. Melnyk, and I was going to drop a wad of my life savings to build an arena and participate in a revenue sharing agreement with a developer, I would not want the developer to build a property next to the site, outside the agreement and — up 5 years worth of demand before a shovel hits the ground at lebreton.

I think this was a business deal that went awry and both sides had their positions. The more I reflect, the more I understand his side. He still may be batsh*t crazy, and his asks may have been unrealistic but at the same time, I'd be pissed if my partner beat me to the cookie jar and took half the jar for himself before sharing.

Not sure how Melnyk thought that Trinity (or anyone else for that matter) was going to stop building during the many years it would take to develop Lebreton. It clearly wasn’t part of the agreement, and frankly while he would be competing for sales with any project downtown, more development in the immediate area could just as easily be helpful to his project.

I think the whole 900 Albert argument is a red herring that he has thrown out to distract from the real reasons he wanted out of the deal - that a) Leeder made a deal that he didn’t like while he was in hospital and b) it became clear that he wasn’t getting public money for the arena.

you are definitely right on #1 but I do think it was because of trinity in particular. This article outlines the fracture and points to trinity development in particular:

https://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/ottawa/senators-eugene-melnyk-sues-trinity-1.4918094

Quote:
According to the claim, which hasn't been tested in court, "the joint venture failed because of an egregious conflict of interest on the part of Trinity and its principal, John Ruddy."

CSMI claims the conflict arose when Trinity began developing an adjacent property at 900 Albert St. "in direct competition" with the LeBreton project.
As for point 2 you could also be correct.

the devil is in the details but I think 900 albert was part of the problem.

Is this going to be rentals only or condos as well?

Quote:
Addressing the growing demand for rental units in Ottawa, 1,300 units will be included in the residential component of the development.
Make me think it is rentals only. Sad
