This will look sleek and elegant and will no doubt re-energize this corner. People complaining about it while under construction need to get a grip. This version is the best out of all previous iterations.

I wish we could have something similar, or even bigger, somewhere right downtown. Having a light, airy gathering place like that where people can come and sit is so nice. Wishful thinking, I'm afraid.

Many here do not care about an additional downtown mall. For whatever reason, I have simply no idea at all. Perhaps people here are simply not exposed to large indoor public spaces like those found in other great cities to deem it necessary.

As for the City of Vancouver, any large podium (non human-scale) construction is frowned upon. The downtown height and shadowing restrictions are not helping things either. Developers simply don't find it that profitable to sacrifice so much "headroom" or airy indoor space when they can only build short buildings on top of podiums. Hence there is no great incentive for a second public-accessible indoor mall to be constructed here, unlike in other cities such as Toronto. This is a sad reality for Vancouver.

For those who keep insisting that there is no demand for it. I have to retort on that. Many departmental and large-format stores, including the likes of Simons, are still waiting for an opportunity to come downtown. Unfortunately they may have to wait forever and not be able to find anything.

Hence our downtown is getting much more boring than it used to be, while the suburb town centres are getting increasingly more exciting to visit.

People saying it will be elegant and sleek while it’s under construction need to get a grip.

The atrium looks ok. The thing I never liked about indoor fountains is that i always found it made the spaces smell like chlorine

But Vin, I thought businesses were scrambling to get out of our "backwater" downtown because "nobody goes downtown anymore". Which is it: Vancouver has an insatiable demand for downtown retail space or downtown tenants can't cancel their leases fast enough?

The retail would flourish if it was facing a private sidewalk for the upper crust only, turning tis back on desolate crummy public sidewalks that people only drive by in the nice cars to and from parkades. Problem solved.

Curious whether they will be demolishing the roof and mechanical penthouse?
It doesn't seem like the right stage in the project to tar the roof.

DP application signs went up Friday for the Four Seasons replacement, if any one is in the area and wants to see the new design. If not it should be hitting shape your city soon.

No word on the new hotelier, but a full reno and reclad of the building and a little surprise at the top
