Is a short term solution to introduce conterflow onto the IWMB? 4/2 in peak hours?
I think I saw a study part of the North Shore transportation review saying it wouldn't work/be worth it. I think both sides are bottleneck versus anything with the bridge deck.

This morning at the highway 1 westbound exit and entry ramp at Mountain Hwy Interchange, they just finished paving the final section. It could be completed in a few days depending on the weather because of a lot of rain in recent weeks.

D'oh not done yet.

Looking at the two cameras they are working on both the Mountain Highway and the Dollaraton/Main ramps today, so moving ahead at least.

They are doing work on the multi-use path at the bridge and the new onramp at the Mountain Highway.

Looks like they installed some massive concrete dividers for the new onramp since the grading is so different. Looks like they just need to paint the lanes.

It's happening!

Looks like mountain highway on/off ramp is now open! From replay the day highway crews opened it around 11:00am.

They painted the white lines last night on the Main/Dollarton onramps. Hopefully this will make traffic go smoother.

I think they are still working on the bit of land between the Dollarton onramp and the two thru-lanes. Orange cone free perhaps one day soon!

They just removed the traffic cones for the priority bus lane on the Dollaration Highway on ramp to Highway 1 east leading to the Ironworkers Memorial Bridge during the morning.

So, how is traffic then? Any improvement in the traffic flow?

I came down from Cypress Bowl and over the Second Narrows last Friday just before 2 PM and Upper Levels traffic was backed up to between Lonsdale and Westview. I think it moved more consistently than I've seen in the past, but it was still 15 minutes of bumper to bumper all the way. There weren't any accidents or breakdowns that I saw, it seemed to be all due to merging traffic at all the on ramps.

With the same number of lanes over the bridge clearly it could not be a night and day change but I think it has improved things which is the best you could hope for given the limitation.

Imho, noticeably more efficient and less chaotic getting on and off north end of bridge.

Here it is this morning moving freely in both directions...

The traffic east of the bridge seems to be a lot worse (ie more traffic coming across quicker from the bridge). The really bad backups from the signalled merge points seems to be better from the opening week.

Yes.. worse from east/Dollarton and worse from west/Main but better on the through lanes, entering from Mountain Highway or entering from Fern St/Superstore over-pass. As they say, you don't get something for nothing, that 's the trade off here.

They could have replaced this bridge too and had the third lane join up with the third lane that starts on just the other side of it?

and then what? Not far from here it goes to two lanes at the bridges... and if not there, then it's two lanes just a little further at the top of the cut.

I could actually see some value to this; as with the Main Street and Dollarton exits, it could get traffic that is exiting for Seymour and Mountain Highway off of the two through lanes earlier.

That probably wouldn't do much. If anything the right lane is the most congested at that point. A large amount of traffic gets off at Main St. and Dollarton Hwy.
