You can really see the heft of Ottawa's built out skyline well shown within that first image...they may not be very very tall buildings, but they're substantial enough to make a big impression as a collective.
That second image really shows a strong collection of building styles and ectlicism to make a neighbourhood interesting and varied enough to be successful. It looks inviting.

Vanier is one of, if not the last, urban neighbourhoods that hasn't gone through gentrification. It's starting now, mostly around the gateway near downtown (between River Road and Vanier Parkway). I'm afraid it might one day get the bland 9-12 storey condo treatment up and down Montreal Road.
For an area with relatively few high-rises today, it already has an impressive density of nearly 6,000 people per square kilometer.
