I’m not holding my breath lol. There’s been plenty of successful sales launches in Kelowna during COVID.

While the restaurant on the 16th floor would’ve had killer views and been a nice addition to Kelowna’s restaurant scene, I agree with Dkaz in that a tower this tall shouldn’t be so close to the waterfront.

Yea. A few years ago I think we were all excited because we were still in a lull in terms of new towers and wanted anything to build up the skyline. Now? The bar has been raised significantly. It's not the quality of the project that I have an issue with, it's the size for the location. I hope the DP lapses and city council rejects any future attempts at building a tall tower there.

Must disagree, it’s a fantastic location for a taller tower (especially one with some flare in the design).

That said I don’t want the entire waterfront to be a wall of tall towers.

My hopes is that the design isn’t altered too much, retains the rooftop restaurant and hotel, but maybe adds a few more floors or residential to help the economics?

I’m not holding my breath though.

Guys, it’s not that tall for the waterfront. You’re all acting like it’s a 150m tower. And besides, since when has tall towers along waterfronts had a negative affect? Look at every coastal or lakeside *major* city, save for LA.
Kelowna has miles and miles and miles of endless waterfront. The waterfront that happens to be downtown won’t be destroyed by a 100m (correct me if I’m wrong, I don’t know the exact height) tower adjacent.

City park is covered in a canopy of trees which don’t let thru any sun so it can’t be the shade that everyone is afraid of? Also since the sun rises in the east, by midday, the shade will be cast over downtown and not the beach/park

Why are people against tall towers along the waterfront?

For anyone curious, the height of the Westcorp Tower, approved through the DP Amendment, shows a height of 129m. For comparison, One Water street is 119m, so the Westcorp Tower is approximately 10m taller then One Water.

Noticed the first pilaster columns striped with the first few signs of concrete getting ready for the platform.

Such a randomn, eclectic group of cites in that page:

Suzhou, CHN December 2021
Bilbao, ES December 2021
Melbourne, FL December 2021
Kelowna, BC February 2022

Is the Kelowna store new, or a relocation of an existing? Either way, Costco seems to think of it as new

UBCO downtown

Just wondering if anyone is in the know on where this stands? Was looking through the original announcements where they stated they were gearing academic activities for fall of 2024. I would think the window to hit that deadline is starting to shrink.

Relocation of an old store that dates back to 1991. The gas bar at the new site actually opened today.

Aside from the new store, there have been intersection upgrades and 2 new signals added. Leckie has been widened to 4 lanes, a proper 4 lanes, not sketchy like before. Next year, there will be dual left turn lanes added from Springfield onto northbound Leckie, as well as 97 onto southbound Leckie. Leckie/Springfield will be easy, the signals have been moved back on the south side to accomodate widening for it (along with adding a new bus pullout) but Leckie/97 is going to be tough. Not a whole lot of space to add another lane there. I do believe Costco is paying for all these improvements though.

Every time I walk down this alleyway between Prospera Place and BNA I always feel like I’ve been transported to Vancouver.

Hard to believe this is Kelowna.

^We had a fresh batch in the morning, but most of it had melted at lower elevations by late afternoon.

Mean winter temperatures in the Okanagan, especially Kelowna south really ride the freezing mark, so most years the snow cover at lower and even mid elevations in the valley is constantly disappearing and reappearing from mid December until mid February.
