Agreed. Keep the LED signage on Fig. Having it haphazardly strewn throughout DTLA is just tacky. Give us blade signs everywhere, though! I would love to see more neon.

Thanks for posting the You Tube spot on the Broadway Plaza !! That brought back so many memories as a kid begging my folks to take me Downtown to see this.

To each it's own...I would much rather LED over neon. And it's not tacky to me at all.

I mean the Wilshire Grand has a spine full of LED lighting, an LED fauxhawk, and a spire that people were complaining about not being lit completely.

I believe that building lighting should be considered but not necessarily required for major projects. I like subtle lighting like the turquoise and purple on Cal Plaza 1 and 3 (Cal Plaza 3 was supposed to be red if I remember reading right).

I do appreciate what The Bloc is trying to do in terms of upgrading itself and trying it's hardest to 'de-bunkerfy' itself.

The Wilshire Grand's courtyard LED's are on the facade of the building and are invisible when turned off... same with the logo in the crown. That is distinct from a solid LED board like what the Bloc is putting up.

Awe, were there ever renderings of Cal 3? I think Cal Plaza towers are amazing in their simplicity and would have loved to see 3

Wow I absolutely love the BLOC tower, that would be the first triangular skyscraper in LA correct? (I'm assuming it's 3 sided) And one of the few not boxy in nature. I honestly could care less about the street level, it's not like they'd come up with anything that would please us all. It actually looks futuristic, like something you'd find in Melbourne but it also doesn't depart too much from the current skyline style, so it's a nice transition. If there was a big red button to approve this I'd be hitting it over and over for the next hour.

I think Bloc is a great improvement on what's currently in place, and the shape is interesting. And I always welcome another 700+ foot tower and the density it will bring.

It wouldn't even be the first triangular skyscraper on top of an over sized parking garage in DTLA.

The abomination 1100 Wilshire is what I believe you are referring to? I stand corrected.

Anyways, LA isn't a pedestrian friendly city and it shouldn't try being something it's not. I doubt it will become a walkable city simply because the base of some of the towers became more accessible. Besides, the BLOC is already pedestrian friendly to begin with, not the prettiest structure but utility wise it checks the boxes. The fact is, LA will remain a car friendly city for as long as we live.

I've always loved 1100 Wilshire precisely because it's such a terrible building. It has a fascinating history too.

Also, the top 4 tallest buildings in Century City are all triangles. But the Bloc residential tower is no triangle. It’s a smoothly rounded rectangular cuboid. The crown piece fools the eye into thinking it’s a triangle

Are you trolling? LA is in fact becoming more pedestrian friendly in a number of ways. It's still car friendly as well, but the balance is equalizing.

A tower on top of the parking structure of the bloc doesn't wow me too much not because it won't help that part of dt, but because too many other sites are in much greater need of infill. The former broadway plaza right now manages to help dt enough so it doesn't have to be too fussed over beyond its renovation from a few yrs ago.

however, if half of the area between 7th St & 8th, hope & Flower were instead a surface parking lot, of course infill devlpt would be necessary asap.

This person walks by sections of dt that are still surface parking lots or old masonry type bldgs...parts of the hood that are in desperate need of replacement. Some infill improvement has occurred along fig south of pico St, but a lot of other blocks of land still need tlc.

The oceanwide proj remains sitting unfinished....I know a new tower at the bloc won't speed up or slow down oceanwide, but completing that proj is priority 1A in 2021 over other sites like the bloc.

Two other renders for the Bloc I found, plus the diagram I just made for it. It will definitely have quite the impact on the skyline.
