Rent prices are getting out of control in the city and that is by no means unique to Claridge or the icon. Take a look on realtor and any new-ish built 2 beds in Centretown are around the same price or more (the new 5th ave project in the glebe is renting 2 beds at $3500(!))
I'm not sure if you're arguing for no housing at Lebreton or just not affordable housing, but either way having more supply and a mix of rent prices helps balance neighbourhoods. A big factor of what makes neighbourhoods like the Plateau and Brooklyn/Williamsburg/Greenpoint interesting is that creative people who may not be the most wealthy can afford to live there (although maybe not so much anymore for the latter). Even new build neighbourhoods like Ørestad in Copenhagen have affordable housing next to Bjarki Ingels buildings and its still a world class neighbourhood.
I guess what I don't get is why does a line have to be drawn in the sand? Just because we're including affordable housing at Gladstone village, why does that mean it can't be mixed into Lebreton too?
Looking at the NCCs plan, do you honestly see Lebreton as being the future beating heart and face to the world of the city? Don't get me wrong, I want to see that as much as you do, but I have my doubts that the NCC could pull it off.
