Agree, I didn't realize that particular building was so ornate. I think it was one of the
best-looking downtown historic buildings.

46-52 W Fayette Ave - A 1.35 acre property is listed on Loopnet that includes plans for a possible project for the site designed by JZW Architects. If built to full potential, a future project could be 11 floors and have up to 450 residential units. A parking ratio of 0.5 per unit is required.

All the attention to the slab near the C.O.B. fountain. I can't help but wonder if the incident in Surfside grabbed the attention of some engineers and risk management people.

I realize the construction of the condo versus a 26-story steel beam office building are night and day. But maybe they felt it was best to not delay fixing water-damaged slabs.

I'm sure the Surfside incident caught the attention of engineers all across the country.

I'm going to miss the water features, as far as I can tell they are not included in the new plaza. I'm assuming the persistent drought also played a role in the decision to not reconstruct the fountains and streams. Pretty sure there would be a lot of finger pointing if they decided to build new water features given our current drought conditions. I also miss the fountains that used to be in front of the Abravanel Hall and Salt Palace. The Salt Palace looked so much nicer with a water feature vs the tacky "You Are Here" signs IMO.

I agree that water features are really great, but regarding the SP feature, I don’t remember seeing tourist and conventioneers taking pics in front of the waterfall, but I do regularly see people taking pics in front of that art installation.

I know that the large fountain at the COB Plaza was problematic in that it would constantly even with the slightest downwind breeze mist people to the point of being soaking wet if you stood at the wrong side for any length of time. That particular location unfortunately was often given to a breeze.

The new water features at Temple Square itself will be much more attractive IMO. The fountain on the south side of the square will be a design favoring the 19th Century vs. the former contemporary oyster shell design, which to me always seemed out of place. The new main fountain will be a lot like the vintage Victorian Era fountain at the Provo City Center Temple or the City Hall bronze fountains.

In the past, there were a few fountains created downtown that were nice when functioning but turned out to be nightmares to maintain. They were constantly breaking down, and or too expensive to maintain. The fountains/water features being created now are expected to be more efficient less wasteful and less prone to breakdowns.

Here's a pic of recent progress on the COB Plaza:

Man, they're really digging deep on this SL Temple renovation project:

Talked to the owners. No issues, just taking time to go vertical. I'd imagine there are delays, there are with all building right now.
