I like correcting people on internet forums as much as the next guy but geez...

Meanwhile as someone who lives in Mt. Airy and looking to buy in the next year or two, condo preferably, I really wish the building replacing the Trolley Car Cafe was condo, it looks great. I wish there was more condo inventory in the area.

To bring things back on topic, what is the deal with the overbuild at 15th & Wood (near Stiles Hall)? I drove by it several times this week and no workers on site, front plywood spray-painted, trash out front. Is it stalled?

I should have taken pictures, and I can't find any links to the project info.

I don't have any info on the status of the project, but this is the project in question: Years Later Building Growing Next To Vine Street Expressway

Conveniently you are leaving out how dumpy and crime ridden CC was in spots for years before any of the social unrest occurred. Then we went on the upswing for years (and I would argue that sometimes it was a clawing upwards too, as there were obstacles) but still not without some issues and then the unrest occurred. Our reputation is not the best on the national stage and that needs to be acknowledged and corrected; Times Square once had a bad rep too and look at what the city did to change that, for example.

NYC and Chicago did something we did not do and ensured that these areas stayed safe over the years so when this nonsense occurred people had no fears about it not being an isolated incident and that the area would not be coming back. What did Philly do? Not really much, per usual.

what in the world are you talking about? You are suggesting that prior to 2020 Walnut street was considered unsafe territory in Philadelphia? You serious?

In amazing news... Walnut Street is rolling out lighted holiday decorations on Rittenhouse Row. Light poles wrapped in garland and twinkle lights.

I take full credit for my nearly 15 years of lobbying RR and CCD for this small, but noticeable, effort.

This project is short; not a skyscraper but it shows promise for a few reasons because it extends the skyline in a small way to 44th Street; in fact the only buildings that are over 8 floors this far out are the West Park Towers which are about 20 floors and they are not exactly known for their grace but are an example of 1960's architecture.

At some point if they ever build high rises near 38-40th Street this location and this project will give them scale; but of course this may be a decade or 2 from now. Maybe one day this prediction will have relevance.

Awesome, I actually saw a picture on Instagram this morning. It brings an extra level of holiday cheer. Little things go a long way.

Some of the projects listed are actually pretty exciting, namely 1300 N Howard, 1106 Spring Garden (although I would've favored an overbuild that incorporated the old facade), 6327 Musgrave (I'm happy to see some action in East Germantown), and 448-456 Rhawn Street (we love to see transit-oriented development in the Northeast!).

I'm slightly disappointed to see yet another storage facility coming to Grays Ferry Avenue, but I guess that it isn't completely unexpected given the site's access to 76 and University City. 5000 Warrington Avenue is even more disappointing, as the two buildings are surrounded by a sea of parking in one of the most transit-accessible areas of the city. The El, four trolley lines, several bus routes, and the Media/Elwyn Line are all close to the site.

The MOST disappointing project is 1600 N 11th Street, however. I've been dreaming of seeing that huge ass parking lot developed since I was a Temple student; however, the current plan is a criminal underuse of a parcel that could accommodate so much more. 1600 N 11th Street should be slated for highrise development, not some of the ugliest lowrise buildings I have ever seen on a CDR slate. I know that this parcel is located within Yorktown, but it should be zoned at least CMX-4. Speaking of Yorktown, I can't stand that this proposal is carrying on the tradition of having homes face inward from the major street. As a black dude, I understand exactly why Yorktown was developed in the way that it was, and Dr. Leon Sullivan was certainly a visionary community leader, but the neighborhood is poorly designed from an urbanist standpoint. Such a large parcel facing an existing highrise across the street deserves so much better than the ugly ass shit that has been proposed!
