The green space in the foreground is a park that is in the floodplain of the Don river valley.

It's impossible to say how many distinct skylines Toronto has. There are groups of highrise towers everywhere, often lining arterial roads from one cluster to the next. The view you're seeing actually shows 3 clusters, with another immediately behind the photographer's vantage point to the right.

The most significant secondary skylines, apart from downtown, would be Yonge and Eglinton, North York Centre, Mississauga city centre (Square One) and Humber Bay.

There's also Scarborough City Centre, but highrise development there stalled about 5-10 years ago. I don't know why (uncertainty over transit?), but there are some major projects in the pipeline.

location, location, location. The eastend of the GTA has half (if that) the population of the westend so it doesn't get a whole lot of attention and, whatever attention it does get, goes to Markham. The largest office complex has had a terrible occupation rate. One of the 3 buildings was completely empty for years. I don't know if the overall pre-pandemic office boom filled up some of the space. It's still going to be well above average. Now, Durham Region is keen on developing their own Vaughan City Centres.

Yea, I'd say much of it has to do with transit plans being in doubt over the years (like you said)....in a couple years we'll finally see some work on a real subway being built in this area.

There's been some highrise construction recently in the area, but it's not really in the vicinity of Scarborough Town Centre. It's across the highway at Kennedy and a small roadway north of the 401.

You're right, General, I forgot about Solaris, Ventus, et al., which were built in the last 5-10 years.
Another mini-skyline worth a mention is Don Mills/Sheppard:

Every skyline does it's own thing. Toronto is just massive and imposing. Vancouver is balanced and picturesque and Montreal has a ton of layers.

I think this photo makes a good case for a height limit, as well.

Not saying I approve 100% on the status quo, but I'm in favour of keeping the mountain as a backdrop from most angles instead of building a massive wall of boring towers.

Nice Van and Vic pics Rico Rommheim. I live close to the castle in your picture, maybe I saw you there without knowing it, lol.

Here’s the view you took looking towards Songhees from the inner harbour on a somewhat sunnier day:

It's a great shot and I love the way the mountain peeks out above the towers there as well, but it's taken from what, a drone? A helicopter? This isn't a view that anyone would actually see in their regular experience of the city.

As least far as I'm aware, there aren't any protected viewcones of the mountain within the downtown core - so to that end, from street level a 150m tower blocks the view just as much as a 300m one would. Better than a blanket ~200m height limit, it'd make more sense to allow greater heights in some areas, and a lot less in others to preserve view corridors.

Never realized Craigdarroch castle’s roof was tin. I always thought it looked like tile or like it was painted red. Surprised it doesn’t oxidize and turn green considering the moisture in Victoria. I thought only semi arid climates preserved it that well.

What is generally forgotten about Montreal's height limit, it's that yes it protects certain viewcones (from the mountain to the river and conversely), but the different "height zones" (ex. 200m, 120m) also aim to recreate the silhouette of the mountain from afar, in order to extend it, hence the former limit of 232,5m above sea level and the actual 200m total limit.

That's where the new Expos stadium would go if it ever gets built.

Is it actually set aside for a baseball stadium? Sure there's a lot of talk of MLB's interest in returning however, I doubt MLB has forgotten the embarassment and failure of the last team's abandonment by the people.

That makes more sense. Maybe it's wet in that picture? Or just polished really shiny.
