It does look like the plan is to remove the traffic circle from Logan Square!
One of my long time dreams.
Seems to me if they remove the circle they will need to connect Vine Street's eastward traffic to the Parkway to redirect traffic around the square and the Parkway east of the Square

So the public process starts 2022? Do they have any rough idea when construction on any of it could start? Id love it if it started within the next 2-3 years but I doubt that

While running last night, I was extremely pleased to see that excavation has begun at the site of 1201 West Girard! Darrell Clarke tried to revoke the permits for this by-right project, but must have lost in court. Across the street on the SW corner of 12th and Girard, the demolition of a church/old theater is ongoing. Checking the permits, a five-story building is set to rise there.

How did Darrell Clarke think that he was going to be able to legally revoke a by-right permit? This level of ridiculousness almost makes me wonder if he did this to appease the neighbors of Yorktown, knowing that he would lose the case, but demonstrating to the neighbors (especially those who aren't aware of how the zoning code works) that he at least tried something.

2026 is when we host FIFA right?
I hope at least logan square is done by then, it thecity is able to host that it would also hopefully encourage us to get more projects done faster to improve the city.

Besides the added revenue from the fans would be a decent boost

It hasn't been decided if we're hosting World Cup games or not yet. July 2026 is the 250-year anniversary of U.S. independence though so we really ought to get some games. But it's not a given since the U.S. is going to have 12 host cities, and in the northeast I suspect the committee will choose three of Boston, NYC, Philly, and DC... NYC is almost a given, and for geographic and money reasons I could see why they might be tempted to pick DC and Boston instead of Philly. I'd be surprised if all four are selected. But 2026 - especially July when the games are - really should put the spotlight on Philly and our history so it would be very disappointing if we're not selected.

This is like a concept car. It's cool to imagine but it will never get built. I expect the real re-design to be much less dramatic.

I was actuality thinking the opposite. With the exception of capping part of the 676 and adding a few amenities, the general proposal seems vague and cosmetic (all of them seemed that way). At the moment, it looks like they’re just tweaking and enhancing the existing design, which is fine. I suspect we’ll get more detailed renderings and plans now that Design Workshop has been selected.

I’m fairly certain that it’s beyond saving structurally. It’s falling apart.

Not that it deserves saving. There are far better examples of brutalism from the era that should be preserved first.

basketball arena, we talking bout a basketball arena? hell no, build a skyscraper on its parking lot and I agree save the roundhouse. I think it's a beautiful building. and can I get a ruling, I say it's a mid century building of course but not brutalist.

It makes so much sense to do this on the super lock between 7th to 8th and Race to Arch. Right near all of the transit (MFL, Regional Rail, BSL-Spur, PATCO), but also still close to the highways and bridge to NJ. I think it would be great symbolically from a social justice perspective to demolish the police brutalism building. Of course you have the African American museum on site as well, which they could incorporate a new space for that in the building maybe, which again is something I think the players and league would really appreciate.

If they insist on center city (and if 8th and Market can’t work) then this is probably the best place for it.
