The new Trim bifurcation around the new LRT station should be renamed Taylor Creek as a continuation across the roundabout.

And the road connecting to the Petrie Landing towers should just be Jeanne d'Arc.

I think Tweddle Rd. is appropriate for the Petrie Island access road since it doesn't have any connection to Trim anymore.

This is way more intuitive and simple.
That's a pretty good summary of what they should be doing. Most of those Trim segments have few if any addresses on them, so it would have minimal impacts. Now's the time to do it.

The city needs to stop naming things after living people.

Since we've already got Louis Riel and his trial lawyer Valade represented in Orléans, I sometimes wonder if - since Saskatchewan as a province is not yet represented among street names as of 2021 - perhaps Tenth Line might be renamed for Saskatchewan?

But I digress...

Don't they have areas named "flats"? What more could you name it to better represent Saskatcheflatland?

It looks like it's already updated on Google maps... but not on the cities geo ottawa service yet.

I’m honoured to share such a warm and collaborative working relationship with Al, and I am proud that Orléans is home to such a dedicated community leader.
Félicitations Al !

So we have 3, 4 or 5 Trims still, depending on how you look at it:
  1. From Navan, north past Millenium and Innes to Cardinal Creek Park;
  2. Turn left on to Trim go north to the second roundabout, where we can go straight on Trim to the 174 dead-end or turn right on Trim;
  3. Right on Trim around the Park and Ride, across the highway to an intersection where you can turn right on Trim or left on Inlet Private, both of which should be Jeanne d'Arc.

The one Trim with a new name will eventually be connected to the original-ish Trim, so it's the one that should actually keep the name out of the last two since it will eventually re-connect.

This City is just terrible with duplicate/triplet/quadruplet+ road names. I can kind of understand the first two (Navan to Cardinal Creek, and Cardinal Creek to Petrie's Landing), but the one around the PnR and the stump between Jeanne d'Arc and Inlet, ridiculous.

I think there's an issue with the mapping data, as it doesn't line up with the councillor's post, or what I heard was going to happen in the past.

All of "Old Trim" from the new cul-de-sac at 174 past the city yard and up to Petrie Island should be Tweddle Road. Right now, south of Jeanne D'Arc is still "Trim" on the maps.

The road formerly "Inlet Private" was to become Jeanne D'Arc Bld N in the area the city had assumed, as far as the cul-de-sac. This is updated on Geo Ottawa, but is mis-labelled as "Trim" on Google Maps.

We don't know what will happen to "Old Trim" from 174 to Taylor Creek. everything north of the new 174 off-ramp will be demolished, so there's only a stub left.

It makes sense to call the curved road around the P&R "Trim" as it's important to keep the highway exits the same for navigation. Eventually, there is the option of reconnecting Trim with an overpass, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there, literally and figuratively.

Stage 2 Light Rail Transit Project (LRT)
O-Train East Extension
Major Construction Activities and Community Impacts

90-Day Lookahead – October to December 2021

OVERVIEW

The O-Train East extension will see the Light Rail Transit (LRT) continue from Blair Station to Trim Road, adding 12 kilometres of rail; 5 new stations to the O-Train network at Montreal Road, Jeanne d’Arc Boulevard, Orléans Boulevard (Convent Glen Station), Place d’Orléans, and Trim Road; 4 new bridges; 6 bridges rehabilitated; 3 pedestrian bridges; and 3 major culverts.

The LRT will travel within the median of Ottawa Route (OR) 174.

We are in the final quarter of 2021 and heavy construction continues to take place across the east corridor as crews build rail, pedestrian, and road bridges, widen the OR174 (road reconstruction, grading, paving, guiderail installation and line painting), and rail guideway (dedicated rail line). Construction of all 5 stations will be underway by the end of the year.
While it is exciting to see progress on the LRT project, some of these activities may cause disruptions for area residents, including intermittent night work, traffic detours, site lighting or additional construction vehicles in the area. Construction team members review all upcoming work Monday mornings and provide an impact notice for overnight work. By emailing [email protected] and joining our list, we can share updates with you.

This notice provides an overview of upcoming activities along the O-Train East LRT project alignment, as well as the expected community impacts including hours of work, locations of crews and equipment, pedestrian, and vehicle mobility, etc.

MAJOR WORKS

To see renderings of the LRT stations please visit: https://ottawa.ca/en/planning-developmen...l-transit-project/o-train-east-extension

Blair Station

Realignment of new intersections, including new islands, curbs, and pavement on Blair Road at the Transitway and the OR174 westbound off-ramp began in September and will continue through the Fall. It is intended that much of the work will be completed in the Fall prior to the onset of winter when local
asphalt plants close. This work is required to accommodate the LRT guideway east of Blair Station.

174 Median Rail Bridge to Montreal Road Interchange

Work on the 174 Median Rail Bridge, 800 metres east of the OR174 Blair Road Interchange is largely complete, with girders, decking and parapets installed and concrete poured. Construction of an MSE (retaining) wall on the west abutment will begin in October. The bridge will then be ready for rail to be installed in 2022.

Construction of new OR174 westbound lanes between Montreal Road and Blair Road were completed in September and westbound traffic was re-aligned to the north side of the 174 Median Rail Bridge.

Montréal Station

Crews and equipment have completed the construction of three new bridges including the installation of girders, deck panels, parapets, and other works within the median of the OR174 and the Montreal Road Interchange for the LRT guideway and tracks.

Station construction, with footings and the foundation wall on the south station, began in September 2021. The station is expected to be completed in March 2023.

As part of the project, there are relocations of utilities (watermain, drainage, sewers) along Montreal Road. These new utilities will be connected to Montréal Station.

Track Work

Rail, manufactured in Spain, was delivered to the Port of Johnstown, Ontario in the Spring, and transported via flatbed trucks to laydown sites in the guideway at Montréal Station and Place d’Orleans Station in August and September. Each piece of rail is 24 metres in length and welding of the pieces is underway. When completed, a total of 6,800 metric tonnes of rail will be laid on the O-Train East Extension.

For the remainder of 2021 crews and equipment will focus on preparing the LRT guideway and welding the rail. Rail installation will begin between Montréal Station and Jeanne d’Arc Station in the Spring of 2022. All track work in the East will be completed in 2022.

Jeanne d’Arc Station

Jeanne D’Arc station construction has been ongoing since late May 2021 and is progressing with concrete, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing works for station footings, walls, and slabs.

Work on a pedestrian bridge at Green’s Creek began in the Spring but has largely been on-hold. The bridge is expected to be completed in the Winter 2022.

Convent Glen Station

Work began in the Spring to relocate major utilities (water, sewer) along OR174 at Orléans Boulevard to facilitate highway road widening work. Work on the north side of OR174 was completed in September. Work on the south side will continue through the Fall 2021, followed by roadwork.

Station construction at Convent Glen is scheduled to begin in December 2021.

Place d’Orléans Station

Rock breaking and station excavation in the OR174 median, required for the guideway and the future Place d’Orléans LRT Station was completed in July 2021. The site was handed over to the station constructor and station construction is underway with excavation, formwork, and rebar installation.

Trim Station

Construction in the OC Transpo Park & Ride is ongoing with work on lights, conduits, and footings at and around the site of the future Trim LRT Station. It is scheduled for completion in October 2021.

Excavation in the guideway for the station is underway. Station construction will begin in November 2021.

In August 2021, the new Trim Road North/South realignment was completed and the interchange with OR174 opened. The OR174 eastbound and westbound realignment at Trim will be completed in October.

Greening Our Community

As part of the tree replacement program for the Stage 2 LRT Project, the City of Ottawa, and the National Capital Commission (NCC) are partnering to plant 3000 trees on NCC lands at Green’s Creek. Tree planting began in September 2021 and will continue through the Fall.

In Watson's budget speech today, the City will "invest to design a future multi-use pedestrian facility" for Trim Station.

^ The City is actually spending $2M on this.

Full Transportation budget, page 136: "The pedestrian bridge at Trim Road will provide pedestrian and cycling access over the OR 174 and a potential connection to the future Trim Road Station. Funding is requested for the
design and construction of the centre piers (2) to allow for the future implementation of the pedestrian bridge. Funding for the full implementation in future years is still to be confirmed."

They want to build the piers without the bridge? That sounds like a bad idea.

This is exactly what was done for the Max Keeping bridge. Advance contract was carried out by the City for the median pier and the one in between the WB lanes and the Vanier Parkway E-N/S ramp. With these piers in place, the highway widening could proceed at the same time as the remaining sections of the bridge were built. These projects were coordinated between the MTO and the City of Ottawa.

If they are going ahead with constructing the piers at Trim, then it's more than likely they are getting the funding for it one way or another.

Exactly, this seems like proper phasing. The median pier will likely be executed as a change order with the existing station contract, so they don't need to work in the station/median once the highway is in its final alignment. The north pier and access can then be completed by a separate contract, and the bridge lifted in with a crane during an overnight closure.

Thanks for the info. They still have three years to complete the bridge, so there's a good chance it will be fully open at the same time as the east extension. Wonder how they'll deal with the north landing though, leaving people in a wide open public works yard, a cold and desolate 300 meter walk from the college and 400 meters from Petrie's Landing.

Also wondering if they still hope Brigil chips in for the bridge somehow.

Most likely. The city's attitude in the suburbs is typically why pay for infrastructure when you can get a builder to pay for it.

I haven't been out for walks as often as a few months ago, but those have been great for getting a sense of the progress of stations, especially Jeanne D'Arc and Place D'Orleans given that I am in Northwest Orleans. My future local station (12 minute walk) is Convent Glen and there had been no work directly done on it for a long time (just a lot of infrastructure work on the sides of the highway). December I think will be the month when that work finally gets off the ground and since it is the last station on the Eastern Stage 2 expansion to be worked on and the closest to me, I am very excited to see that progress!

Before we know it, those stations will take shape and we will feel very close to the launch of Stage 2 (even if another year and a half may be left as they continue interior work, preparing the track infrastructure, a hopefully thorough period of testing, etc.)
