The podium is not offensive and we're not giving birds a place to nest I guess. Unfortunately overall it is suburban feeling, especially the tower.

I can't remember what the original design looked like. Does anyone have the rendering on-hand?

The original was rejected for the height am I correct?

That —.

What — most about it is that the new design isn’t terrible. If it were the first design presented my reaction would have been, “meh, nothing special but not ugly either”

But having seen this original proposal makes the new design seem that much worse.

Not exactly. It was similar scenario to those renderings of UBCO we saw a few months ago. The applicant changed architects mid process so that’s why the new design.

Ah, okay. That’s a shame.

Again, don’t hate this new design, just doesn’t hold a candle to the original.

Also so many tower projects currently in the works in Kelowna, any chance someone can come up with a quick list for reference?

Or is it time for Kelowna to actually have its own sub section or to at least be split into a few threads? (Tower projects / road and transport / other developments)

Thanks, just to confirm, Bernard block is two towers (one office and one residential) and Brooklyn was the first of the Bernard block towers right? (3 towers total).

Also Water street is three towers, two sold and in site prep, and one yet to sell?

Thanks.

Yeah, it's a bummer to lose that podium, and the building's architecture is definitely more interesting than the current proposal.

Ah well.

2020 and Capri

Wondering if the 2020 proposal is dead in the water after they were shut down at 46 floors. Are they coming back with a 2nd proposal? Also, the Capri center has been very quiet for a few years. Any updates there?

It appears that the next (final?) phase of Central Green is going to begin rising soon:

Per the Local Government Act once an application is defeated by council they have to wait at least 6 months to reapply.

There's also going to be a new pedestrian bridge from Central Green to Bertram St by the end of next year.

Much needed connection, not only for Central Green but also as a safer access to the 97 bus stops on both sides.

I think it got scaled down to 6 floors for the last two buildings.

One Water Street

Does anyone know anyone who has moved into the 1st tower at One Water?

I'm interested to know if they're happy with the development and their apartment so far.

Statement from Westcorp’s website regarding the downtown hotel:

“Westcorp was working on construction drawings, had completed construction of the hotel’s presentation centre and was preparing for the sales launch when, in March 2020, COVID19 forced delay of the project. Westcorp is currently exploring avenues to facilitate a relaunch of the project.”

I wonder if this project will ever see the light of day!

With the number of projects that were completed and many more that started construction since the hotel was proposed, I'm done with the excuses really. And I'm fine with that because I no longer think it's appropriate for a tower that tall to be next to the waterfront.
