Fredericton mobility committee votes for new pedway feasibility study

This would connect Skyline Acres and College Hill. This is a project that's long overdue.

A pedway is long overdue there to connect those two areas, especially if/when they do the roundabout connection between the highways and hospital.

The old exit ramp there leads to a big area next to Bliss Carmen; that would probably be a great spot to have a decent sized apartment building. With a pedway connection it would be good student housing (though people in the Bliss Carmen neighbourhood might complain; not sure how NIMBY they are).

On a different topic, the buffet on Main street next to Superstore has been renovated, and is now set up as an Asian grocer. Seems like a good idea for it; I hope they do well. Considering the asian restaurants around it (at least 3 I can think of off hand; 6 if you go all the way up to Brookside), it seems like there would be some demand lurking around there.

And the commercial spaces of the new building next to A&W seem to almost all be taken now. Only 1 new sign up so far, but of the 3 remaining units, 2 of them seem to be fitted out for something specific (walls are painted a non-neutral colour, and it looks like separate office space set up in the second). Only the final unit at the end (right next to A&W) may still be available.

I suspect there would be quite a bit of resistance to any higher density housing in that neighborhood. Usually I don't have much sympathy for those kind of complains but in this case it may be justified. That entire neighborhood is only accessible from Essex Street, which is quite unusual especially based on emergency response standards. So adding a bunch more housing there may not be realistic.

Regardless, the concept plan shows a potential overflow parking lot/park and ride, bike rental kiosk, and transit stop. https://pub-fredericton.escribemeetings.com/filestream.ashx?DocumentId=4045

The brick building next to Wolastoq Wharf looks like it is going to be torn down. All the fixtures and windows have been removed.

November PAC Agenda is out

Looks like 2 proposals for developments off Brookside that will add hundreds of apartment units to the area.

Also it looks like a drive-thru restaurant is being built next to Tim's on Hanwell. The name of the restaurant isn't given, and I don't really recognize the style in the diagram. I see some hints of Wendys maybe; but that doesn't feel right (especially with the proximity of the Wendys on Prospect). The red feature wall on the outside is quite distinctive; but I can't think of an appropriate chain for it.

Renderings resemble the new design of Popeye's stores.

https://www.businesswire.com/news/home/2...xpand-Iconic-Restaurant-Brand-to-Romania

Also, looking at the layout it shows chicken holding area, battering station and fryers.

Ah - could very well be.

Popeyes is under construction in Halifax, and we have good evidence that they will be building in Moncton next year. Fredericton would be logical too.

Doubt it would have a double drive through.

Popeyes is looking pretty likely.

Colour and design matches pretty much exactly to thier new stores, e.g., the white and red brick, vertical wood facade and green canopy around the entrance.

The more I think about it I think you're right that this is a Popeyes. RBI owns Tim Hortons, Popeyes, and Burger King so makes sense to locate the existing Tims and the new store together

Thanks to various documents from the PAC Agendas, we now have a pretty good idea what the future of Brookside Drive looks like.

Over the course of this summer, it seems Colpitts made a lot of progress on their Stonecrest at Kimble Crossing development. The discontinuous segments of Wetmore Road have been linked and most of the lots on the street are built now.

Also, the apartment building at 214 Dunns Crossing Road has a foundation poured. I wonder if they plan on putting up any structure this year.

I believe the Brookside Mall ownership bought the land on the corner of Ring and Brookside adjacent to the mall. Highly suspect that will be developed into high-density residential apartments. Likely occur after the round-about at Ring and Brookside is complete

Nice visual. Missing is the building under construction at 845 Brookside.

Same transaction date and purchase price as the rest of the mall so I assume that land came with the mall. Developing it as residential would be a great precursor to turning some of the mall parking into apartment buildings.

If the entire mall property (minus that lot) was rezoned MX-3 there would be room for 1100 units of housing.

Red isn't in the Popeye's brand standard. I'd suspect it's a free-standing KFC. But having just moved east from Toronto, I can't wait for Popeye's to get here!

The thing is, we have 2 KFC's in the city already (3 counting Regent) and they've just been majorly renovated in recent years. One KFC location isn't that far away from where this is going too. The panelling, white-painted brick and stucco do seem to match Popeyes, so I guess we'll see.

In other news, looks like there's some activity happening on the North side.

* The foundation in front of the new apartments at Main/Union (near Wendys) has been covered up, probably to protect it through the winter. Hopefully that means it will start in the spring.
* Foundation holes are being dug in the lots next to Devonshire Drive ( I think near the law offices). I think this is 2-3 story residential going in there?
* As someone noted, the brick building next to Wolostok Warf is being demolished. They seem to be taking their time, or maybe it's a difficult demolish since I was by late today and there didn't seem much done yet.
* The townhouses next to the walking trail behind the new building next to A&W have been started. Looks like they are digging next to the trail now.
* The tanks have been removed from the old Ultramar and the lot repaved. Looks like the building is being left sadly. It's already heavily graffiti tagged, so I hope they do something with it soon.
