Very unfortunate that Blah returned and apologized and someone basically made it look like it didn't happen. I missed the posts but I don't get why that would happen or who would do that.

In other news, the former Sears site apartment and the Kozo House Apartments are on the next planning commision agenda requesting time extensions. Good to know those are still on the agenda - I know there were some rumors that Kozo House had been canceled. I wonder if it's just supply chain issues affecting those projects.

People don't make rational decisions when they're emotional.

One thing I think salt lake is lacking is some major green space. I think one way to have a vibrant city/downtown is incorporating a mixture of culture alongside connections to nature. Are there any locations downtown that could eventually be home to additional green space? Are there opinions on ways we could incorporate green space into our future buildings?

I agree, SLC is lacking green space downtown. The new Pantages Park will be nice but small, and we recently lost the public open spaces where the CCH and 95 State are now.

The biggest potential for larger green spaces that I can see is the three undeveloped (10-acre) blocks: the Fleet Block, Block 85, and Block 40. I'd really love to see some kind of green plaza space incorporated into Block 40 in particular, but who knows what CCR has planned for it.

Given its storied history (Terrace Ballroom, Newhouse Hotel), Block 40 would also be a great place for a Utah musical history museum+venue if there's demand/interest in such a thing. A pipe dream, I know, but fun to think about.

I think a great place for a little pocket park to replace what was lost next to Harmons would be the plot at the south east corner of 3rd south and 2nd west, across the street from the PF Chang. It's just an empty dirt lot, but already has the cool Jazz mural painted on the building that butts up next to it. A few planted trees and wild flowers, some path making, garbage cans and benches would do the trick.
With the social club being built immediately to the south, the Rose Wagner Performing arts center across the street, and the eateries surrounding it, I think it would make a lot of sense.

Agree Scott, though it's likely that site will be taken up by some type of structural mixed-use development in the not too distant future.

It’s probably too soon to know unless you are on the inside. I’m not sure if the Main Street tower cleared the legal hurdles yet. Reddit had some good info on its legal status and that of Astra last time I checked

I also have to say I’m pleasantly surprised at how quick things moved on the Convexity tower! It didn’t seem like the process dragged on for this tower.

Speaking of activity at towers, just went by the Astra site. Lots of activity and a large crew is on-site working hard. Seems to be well underway.

I can confirm that the Greek Orthodox Church Development is a go.

Demolition will start shortly, with construction beginning early next year.

From my perspective downtown is in a boom phase. I've never witnessed
anything like it.

Any chance we will see updated plans/renderings before construction? My guess (without checking) is that they can build most of it without a design review.

Are they still going to try to build a bridge across 300 W? That would probably require some extra work/approvals but would be super cool.

Every once in a while I feel it is appropriate to take a step back and appreciate where we are. Thinking back a few years on this forum think how happy we would all be if we knew that Eat a Burger and Carls Jr would be gone and that a new tallest was under construction at the site and also that the convention center hotel was nearly topped out. And this isn't saying anything about all the other many towers and projects that are currently in the works.

The mayor described six "big moves." First, she said, is the creation of a Ballpark Station Area Transit zone. Second, a reconfiguration of the Ballpark TRAX Station to improve access from the west. Third, she said, is improving 1300 South for pedestrians and includes new crossings to expand and upgrade the pedestrian street-level experience.

Mendenhall shared that the fourth "big move" is to create a sense of place around the baseball stadium in a way that positively activates the area 365 days a year.

Fifth, she continued, is to repurpose parking lots and other under-utilized properties to add activity to the heart of the neighborhood. Lastly, Mendenhall talked about investment in community amenities and greenspaces to balance the growth of the neighborhood with attributes that will improve the quality of life.

To be honest, I haven’t been blown away by her admin. Now granted that is has been eaten up largely by pandemic related needs, so I’m glad to see some moving and shaking going on from the mayors office.

Ironweed, thanks for the Greek Orthodox update. Can everyone imagine how amazing 200 S between 200 W and 300 W is going to look with the huge block 67 second phase on one side of the street and the Greek Orthodox project on the other side of the street? With other projects just west of this location, 200 W is going to change dramatically.
