Looks great. It makes sense to proceed - rarely do building costs ever go down. Waiting a few years to do this because of costs could go in their favor, but at the same time it could increase by millions. The reality is it could have cost them 10-15 million less to have built it 3 years ago. Looking forward to construction starting - that end of downtown is seeing a lot of transformation.

You'd think for that amount of money, and in such a prominent location, the architects could have designed something that wasn't so 🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵🞵 ugly.

So Ashford is finishing up their building on the corner of Highfield & Gordon, and starting their new one at Highfield & Campbell. When the new one is completed, I wonder if they'll focus on doing something with their property south of Assomption Place. That's a major sea of asphalt that the city would dearly love to see developed.

Alas our number of tower cranes remains stable at seven. The tower crane at 2251 Mountain Road was recently taken down.

Current distribution:
Downtown - 4
Moncton Northwest - 2
Dieppe - 1

At some point in time, there should be a tower crane at the Tides in Riverview, and I have heard rumours of components of a tower crane on the ground at that new apartment project off Harrisville. I have not driven over to confirm this yet however. Also, the tower crane for that apartment building on Weldon will likely be coming down before the start of winter.

I think our total will remain stable in the 7-8 range.

There could be another crane added to the northwest when that other set of 3 six storey building are started. Add in St Bernards and Promenade Neuf phase 2 and the Tides and that makes 10. If they put one up at the project in Gunningsville Blvd and the chocolate river station project that will be well into double digits.

In essence the argument is that a regional municipal force to replace the RCMP would likely be larger, and would require forensic space that is not included in the current building, because the RCMP use the forensic lab in their regional building on McBeath Avenue. The opponents of the project are using this as an excuse to delay or cancel the project until there is additional "clarity" regarding the future of RCMP municipal policing.

My point of view is:

1) the metro area needs a new police HQ anyway. The existing building is too small, and is virtually beyond repair. The project should proceed as is.
2) if the feds decide to get out of municipal policing, then we can look at what needs to be done to support an expanded municipal policing force at that time. In particular, Riverview and Dieppe might prefer to have small satellite policing stations in their own communities to keep policing services closer to their communities and perhaps shorten response times. The entire municipal force does not have to be housed in a single building.
3) simlar with 911 services and forensics, they don't necessarily have to be housed in the main building. They could be located elsewhere in the community (much as is RCMP forensic services right now).

Let's get on with building this new HQ building, it's time............

The T&T is reporting approval for a new 21 unit apartment building (one bedroom and bachelors) on the SW corner of St. George & Steadman Streets in the downtown east end. This is kitty corner to the other recently approved small apartment building currently under construction on the NE corner of this intersection.

Renders available on the PAC document seem to show it will be identical to the building under construction on the NE corner of this intersection:

It's unclear if it will be identical.

Rising Tide purchased the property on the northwestern corner of the intersection where developer Daniel Gautreau had proposed this building and had received approval by PAC.

Since the property was sold to Rising Tide, Gautreau purchased the southeastern corner and resubmitted the building plans for that site.

He owned a couple buildings in the Fleet/Highfield area with a mix of subsidized units and market rent that were sold a year or two ago.

Good to know. I wasn’t aware of the change in plans.

It’s good to see two corners of this intersection being developed. It will add density to the neighbourhood, and will provide affordable housing options to the area.

According to the T&T, Skyzone will officially reopen at 2 PM tomorrow in their expanded new location in the old Chrysler building on St. George Blvd.

At 28,000 sq ft, it will be the largest indoor play park in Atlantic Canada. The business will have 35 employees.

A good way to work off all those sugar donuts from Mrs Dunster's next door (which, with the all baking, has nicely added to the aroma of my neighborhood).

According to Huddle, this development for east St. George Street has been approved by PAC, with construction to begin almost immediately, and to be completed by late next spring.

These apartments are designed to be affordable:

Given the outcry over the absence of "affordable" housing in the city core these days, we need more of these modest and low cost buildings to be built in the city (in addition to the larger and more flashy developments).
