I don't have to look at them everyday in person, but Presidential Towers never bothered me, to be honest. Nothing to write home about, but better than many of the River North beige towers that went up in the early 2000's.

Wow I totally had that book as a kid. And even as a kid I though the growing development around the house was so cool even though the point was showing how bad it was lol.

Don't know if it's been mentioned already, but 166 N. Aberdeen has drill rigs on site. Haven't been by there for a while and thus didn't realize foundation work was underway/imminent, though I know they got the permit.

Hah! I read this as a kid too and thought the exact same thing! I wished that the Loop would grow into my childhood neighborhood just like it did for the house in the book

These are worth putting side by side. That's a whole extra city that's been built in 15 years. And I really do love the Green Line. I'm looking forward to taking Metra/Green to the United Center once Damen is open.

Note: The first image can't be from '08 (sorry RG34). Trump is still being built, 300 N LaSalle and Aqua aren't there. That's ~'05, right?

Funny how books can shape your views at an early age. I remember reading Farewell to Shady Glade by Bill Peet and forever hating development of natural areas and the endless suburban sprawl.

no, that looks like early 2008 to me.

trump tower was topped out in august of 2008, so it would have been a little bit more than halfway up in january of 2008, as the picture is dated in Emporis' database.

if memory serves, Aqua and 300 N Lasalle topped out after trump tower, so they wouldn't have been visible from that perspective in january of 2008.
