Great mock-up Orlando. It's starting to resemble a proper skyline.

Heyyyy!!! I used to have an account here, hadn’t posted in years and forgot my password lol. Anyways, I’m back, yay! Introductions aside, looking through just the past few pages, I’m already overwhelmed by all the projects (a good thing btw). Could one of y’all put together an up to date like, portfolio or something, of all the “important” ones? (They’re all important, but like maybe the 20 or so biggest ones?)

With the reconstruction of 200 South this section of town is gonna be so much more vibrant.
Agreed! Exciting stuff happening right now!

The West Quarter has really turned into an amazing project! (basically a city within a city lol) I love all the interesting shapes, angles and finishes. Just one observation, the Main Street apartments are supposed to be 392' at 31 stories, 99 West is 375' at 30 stories. The tallest residential tower in the West Quarter is 28 residential and 7 parking/retail for a total of 35 stories. How are they going to stay within the 375' limit for this tower? The render looks 400+ to my eyes. I wonder if the city is going to allow an exception for this project.

I know this has been discussed multiple times in the past, but why is SLC still using it's antiquated height ordinances? It's clearly time for a complete overhaul of the height limits!

Nick Norris (SLC Planning Director) chimed in on the subreddit and said this:

So 400'+ may still be in play here.

I just want to say that I love the architecture of these new West Quarter buildings. These are the type of buildings we have been waiting for. Exciting times in the SLC!

Thanks Atlas! Glad to hear they added a clause to the D4, also glad they are evaluating all downtown heights.

By "newer buildings" I mean buildings that are newer than 100 year-old buildings, not new as in 5–10 years old. We are seriously in danger of losing the historic fabric of our city because so many historic buildings are being demolished.

These are just a few that came to mind. This is not an exhaustive list.

I have enjoyed updating all of you on all the new projects and developments, even spending hours out of my day, every day, doing so.

However, all good things come to an end. With the toxic nature of the discussions surrounding TMoneySLC, with TMoneySLC continuing to push even after the conversion was dropped, as well as the apparent agreement of many here, I have decided to leave this forum. It has just become too much to be worth it.

Thank you to all of those that have made my time here fun and exciting. I will genuinely miss talking with many of you.

Goodbye.
I, for one, will not miss you if you choose to leave. After reading through that long discussion with TMoney, you were rude, mocking, divisive, and accused someone who merely had a difference of opinion of being a troll. The toxicity was ALL COMING FROM YOU.

Also, this attitude because someone dared to disagree with you so you're going to leave is very childish.

If the West Quarter Phase II ends up being built like the renderings, it will be one of my favorite buildings in SLC.

Of just the sites you listed, here is what I know:

This was planned for a 40+ Residential building after the Astra. It has been moved behind the tire shop redevelopment (SE corner 3rd South 2nd East) but I would expect 40+ stories of apartments still.

I have heard there were/are plans for a residential tower. Information is a few years old so things might have changed.

The Shilo/Holiday Inn has been a thorn in the side of many Conventioneer and Convention/Meeting Planner. There have been numerous plans and even some offers by other Hoteliers to purchase, demolish, and build a new hotel on the site. The last one was shortly before the current location of the CCH was selected and announced. I know there is a lot of people hoping that this is redeveloped into a 500+ room high rise hotel. I don't think we will see anything happen here in the next 10 years though I hope I am wrong.

I would not expect anything to happen here until after APS. This was one of the locations that was being looked at for the Omni CCH before Omni wanted too much money, leading to the 2nd RFP round which then lead to the current CCH. I don't see this becoming a hotel though, there is too much push behind APS and then Shilo/Holiday Inn. This could end up being another Residential tower on 2nd South.

Outside of these and many other locations, there is a high focus right now on adding more Residential towers to the downtown area. This focus has pushed heights upward, as we have seen just recently with the updates for Block 67 Phase 2. Because of the demand for housing in and around SLC, I would expect that we will continue to see big things happen with Residential towers for the foreseeable future.

Ummmmmm, no. Those kind of posts don’t belong on these forums. And to have it be your first post is not a good sign for things to come.

No offense but you're brand new - don't come in here acting like you know anything about this forum lol.

I agree that Blah acted immaturely in that exchange, but he has been an invaluable member of this forum for YEARS and has kept us updated on many many projects, some of which I never would've known about were it not for him.

I get that Salt Lake City has a "small town feel", but it's not like it's going to become a major city overnight. Salt Lake is still a "small big city" and will probably remain that way, but it is growing up. It's inevitable, and frankly if you want a "small town feel", there are a lot of places you could move to. I hate to be the guy that's like "if you don't like it then leave", but for those of us who actually want a true urban environment, we more or less have to leave. There is very little in the way of true big city life in Utah, but there is plenty of suburban and small town life. Cities grow up - it's inevitable, and frankly for Salt Lake City I say it's about time.

Anyway, I love the West Quarter Phase II renderings. It's really something bold and ambitious for Salt Lake - ambitious enough that I'm worried it won't actually happen as rendered, but I'm choosing to remain optimistic. I'm anxious to see all of these developments really get moving.

I know I recently joined too so I understand my say doesn’t matter too much rn, but I’ve paid attention to this forum for the past 4 years solid now, and this bickering hasn’t ever been an issue til recently. And I’m not a fan. We’re all here for the same thing, so let’s get along and try to act remotely professional. Sharing opinions and debating is perfectly fine, but name calling and unnecessarily bad language can go. Hopefully that didn’t come across as snooty lol, just hate that I joined at kind of a toxic time, I’d rather enjoy my time on this forum ya know?

Anywho, a topic I really enjoy, and something I think we all are interested in......2030-34 Olympics! Comments? Opinions? I know it’s 9 years away but with the 2022 olympics starting in just a few months, it’s becoming a more present topic
