Blah, c'mon. Stick around. The information you post is exactly what this forum needs. We're just talking about buildings, after all. If you don't like what someone has to say, just move on. Ignore. Everyone has an opinion and that's OK.

Yeah Amazing! You are too much of an asset and contributor to leave this forum. Stick around bud, no hard feelings. Just some passionate people with strong points of view. Don’t let that get you down. You gotta overcome that sentiment and stick it out. We all share a strong interest, you are right where you belong. Hang in there.

Really hope you decide to stick around Blah! Your insight is amazing!

Looks like demo started on the yellow Broadway building. Rode past there about 30 minutes ago and 1/3 of the building was in rubble.

Blah_Amazing don't you dare say goodbye! A major part of the enjoyment of this forum is your input. Each morning first thing when I get to the desktop I check to see if your name is at the top of the thread. I am always so gobsmacked excited to see whatever new project you have dug up and posted on the forum. At least half or more of the foundation of what I'm able to post on the Compilation Thread for many many non-local forum members to view is what you post here on the local Salt Lake Thread.

I think 98/% of us agree with most or all of what you're saying. There is nothing radical or 'The Sky Is Falling' about any of what you're pointing out. Anyone who has followed your posts over the past while would understand that perfectly without continuing to post 'hair on fire' retorts. Those rare occasional posters who seem to disagree just for disagreement's sake pop up every once in a great while. It's always best just to ignore their rant. I mean half of the responses to what you were pointing out seemed to completely ignore your previous explanation. It just gets way too frustrating and draining to try and conduct a civil discussion with those types.

Anyway, if ever there were a need for an additional local moderator you would certainly have my vote and most likely the vote of most of the forum. We can't afford to lose you. If you need to dial your time spent back a bit then, by all means, give yourself a breather every now and again. Just don't give up completely.

Edit: Just from a perspective of having joined quite some time ago, it's not nearly as contentious on the forum as it use to be a few years ago. It's actually comparatively peaceful these days.

Thanks for the photo updates everyone!

My 2 cents is I appreciate everyones contributions to this forum regardless of how big or small. I like reading other peoples opinions even if I don't always agree with them. This is a public forum and all walks of life are welcome here, as such not everyone will always see eye to eye. That said, we can't let these simple disagreements divide us. At the end of the day we all have a common passion for development. I hope you will reconsider your decision Blah Amazing, I clearly speak for many when I say your contributions to this forum are very appreciated!

Thumbs down Update on worthington/convexity tower construct.

I was talking to Layton Construction personnel today at the worthington tower site and he told me construction will begin immediately after the rubble of the
Broadway Plaza is cleared ( in about a week).

He said underground footings will be constructed immediately and the tower will go vertical in Februrary!!!

He confirmed it will be 31 floors and will be approx 360-365 feet in height, which is higher than previously stated.

Also I noticed that rebar footings are on site at the Astra Tower site.

The memories. How many times did I get hammered at the Tavernacle? My wife threw up on the sidewalk out front back in 2007. Only time in our mariage she hurled from too much drink.

Nice work meman. That kind of direct information is nice to hear. It will be interesting to see if the 365ft holds up. Thanks again.

Yeah Blah, definitely would be sad if you left. You keep us updated on so many projects and invite so much discussion. Don't let a day of disagreement and arguments get ot you.

I have to agree with your viewpoint moreso than others. I think the hyperbolic sentiments of preservation-minded people (like Comrade saying that the city council just wants to demolish historic neighborhoods, which is an objectively false bad faith argument) don't do anybody any favors.

To me, the "character" and "fabric" of a neighborhood are built by the people moreso than the buildings. I am not saying that buildings don't have character, or that individual buildings cannot be important. A lot of great neighborhoods are built around beautiful historic buildings and incorporate them into their neighborhood "fabric".

However, when people talking about preserving the character of neighborhoods, usually what is implied is that they want a certain type of people to live there while keeping others out. Single-family zoning is inevitably intertwined with racism and classism in our cities, and to want to keep these neighborhoods the same means that you don't want new people - especially new poor people - moving into these neighborhoods.

Looking at areas that have been upzoned, it doesn't lead to wholesale destruction of neighborhoods. It leads to pockets of densification, but it's not as if there's going to be a massive, immediate destruction of entire neighborhoods.

If anything, by rezoning the ENTIRE city to allow multi-family development (I'm talking duplexes, triplexes, fourplexes etc, not necessarily apartment buildings) would lessen the blow of gentrification and displacement, as it would more equitably spread development pressures throughout the city, instead of primarily concentrating it in "less desirable" areas or in areas that have already been marginalized by years of neglect and indifference. It would also be something that could ACTUALLY make a dent in the housing shortage.

Does it really destroy the "fabric" and "character" of a neighborhood if you have some old homes being torn down and replaced with modern homes? If anything, I tend to find neighborhoods that have a mix of different styles of architectural history represented, and a mix of different housing types, to be more interesting neighborhoods. We are not going to lose the soul of this city because some old homes in Liberty Wells were replaced with townhomes, or because apartment complexes have popped up in certain neighborhoods alongside older homes.

Blah. I really don't want to see you go. I bet 95% of the readers of this blog really appreciate you and what you bring to the forum. I get frustrated with some of the negativity, but it is really only coming from mostly two people. All of us can just ignore the negative nellies and continue to share photos, posts and opinions. Come on - stick around.

Wasn’t the Astra project canceled because of Jenies Smoke shop complaining about their parking easement?

Don't be sorry because of someone else's cry for attention. Leaving this forum over a debate is nothing but that--crying for attention.
