It's not a commonly-photographed angle of the skyline, especially at night. I did a double-take as well.

Having some lights on in Burrard Gateway tower really adds to the night view from that angle.

Seriously the Van skyline viewed from the south has improved dramatically.

The things you say. Size isn't as big of a deal as its made out to be. Those cities didn't pay anywhere near the price of a MLB team today adjusted for inflation. Expansion fee could be 3 billion CAD in 15 years

Location is great but the stadium only seats 9000, so obviously not big enough. The idea of ball games in Edmonton in October is also not ideal.

Yes, it's a fantastic location and 9,000 is quite decent for a non-MLB ballpark. What team plays there now and when does their season end? Eventually the sport needs more MLB teams in Canada if the sport is to prosper nationally. Montreal and Vancouver would likely come first but cities like Edmonton are viable down the road as well.

If there used to be whispered talk of Toronto not being a favoured destination for some American NBA players, and Vancouver was not liked by NBA players at all, with some outright demanding not to be drafted by them or traded there, in what universe would Edmonton be workable as a major league baseball city, not least due to the spring and fall weather when baseball begins and ends its season?

You're more the troll for suggesting an MLB team might ever be in Edmonton, for goodness sakes.

Isaidso has this notion that he should have the right to choose whoever can quote him in a public forum. It might stem from another belief that someone is exclusively talking to him when taking that action. It doesn't matter how many times you tell him that you aren't.

Not to mention that even if Edmonton does eventually surpass a few American cities with MLB teams in population, the corporate presence and GDP per capita in those American cities is still going to be substantially higher.

I remember. In the baseball thread, he stated relocations happen all the time. There's been one in 50 years. Tampa, KC, Pittsburgh, Oakland, etc. have all being rumoured for decades. It's the last thing MLB will approve. MLB wanted to disband the Expos.

I think people forget just how bad it got for the Expos. After the courts block disbanding, MLB ended up owning the team. The relocation took the form of an expansion process than a relocation. MLB hasn't forgotten.

That spot is a great location for a ballpark but there isn't any proper parking available. When events do happen cars are parked on the grass fields surrounding the ballpark. The situation will improve greatly if the gondola gets built, a station will be built beside the power plant. Having said all that, in order to make an MLB team work in Edmonton we would need a bare minimum of 45,000 fans in attendance each game, and a massive MLB scale ballpark with parking to accommodate all that. We would need a rivalry of some sort to make fans want to cheer them on. Calgary and Vancouver would be the only cities that could make such a rivalry possible. So we ain't getting a team until those cities get one.

Cold weather in the early season basically did in AAA baseball in Edmonton and it would do the same to MLB assuming that Edmonton could get over the other obstacles to getting a team. The only way it could theoretically work is with a domed stadium, and as we all know it could cost an absolute fortune to build one.
