the Mill

It would be great if someone could make this happen. Gotta be a lot of reasons this hasn't happened. if not I hope this eyesore burns to the ground. Tired of looking at this thing. Great that the town had a mill but there are literally thousands of these things across our country. If this doesn't happen soon put a photo and a plaque on the site and call it a day.

It has burned down, a few times now. I remember when the mill building actually fronted Mill, and I think that was even after a fire burned down whatever the Door of Doom opened into.

I like the Mill & you want it to burn down!

It’s a great contrast to all the modern looks around it.

I really don’t feel like it needs to be turned into anything more than a brewery though. Just have some activity around it instead of being a dead zone.

I saw piles of dirt by the Tempe Depot development. Hopefully that gets moving soon.

I just looked at their website, wow, that looks incredible with light rail traveling under it!

Did we ever get an update about the 2nd building we saw in plans for the 100 Mill lot?

I can’t imagine the hotel not getting under way once 100 mill is completed. I just wish the Hayden house would have been turned to a restaurant with an outside patio. Would have created a lot more energy than it being an office.

That arena seems like it's moving at a breakneck pace. I barely knew they had broken ground. I might just be getting old tho.

Pretty good read, seems like a lot of incentives to the residents there. And of course car and driver would be critical of this project, they're opinion is irrelevant imo. It seems many of those on the outside are unaware of the urbanization of Tempe over the last decade.

I agree. I think projects like the culdesac will do very well in Tempe. Especially since the rents are manageable. Here is a video of the micro estate being built on rural and Apache.

One of the reasons I check this forum despite having no relation to Tempe is because of Culdesac. I really hope it's successful and I think it could do a lot to convince people nationally that car-free communities can work. I would seriously consider giving up my car to live somewhere like that where I am. That is kind of hilarious that Car and Driver even gave their opinion on the matter in the first place though lmao

Are there any plans for improved bike lanes between Culdesac and campus? I feel like that would make it even more easy to live there.

None that I know of. Most Tempe bike projects right now are focused pm north-south corridors. There are already bike lanes on Apache, but not with the separation that might make more people feel comfortable using them.

Culdesac never once gave me the idea it was going to be affordable. It's garden apartment density never looked liked it was going to pencil out by itself in 2021, especially after it will require a small army of landscapers and an unusually dedicated property management staff to keep it attractive to existing and prospective tenants.

But I am old and pessimistic and have been surprised before about this project, like the fact it's even under construction.
