I like Barcelos, they seem to be mostly in the suburbs here, I also like Nandos. I know the Swiss Chalet in poco is now closed, I didn't mind them, I used to like Harveys too, Grande Prairie had two when I lived up that way I would go there.

^^

Both Barcelos and Nandos are great grilled chicken options. Delicious.

Another great option; Peri Peri shack on Kingsway.

I'd say this speaks to the competitiveness of BC's local brands.

I can't say I miss any of those listed.

I used red lobster as an example because Ive had a GC in my wallet for over 2 years that I haven’t been able to use due to the border being closed.

We have Red Robin.. which used to have a presence in Alberta.. until they shuttered all of them not too long ago.

Actually most of the chains you've listed above don't have much of a presence in Alberta.. even Chili's which was once popular there, only has the airport locations remaining.

Oh look, if I don't tell their website my location, it defaults to ONTARIO.

Yah - they are not prevalent around the West.

The question was about the best East coast chains.

Mary Browns is ace at fried chicken. They are opening a location on Main Street.

I have been enjoying the Kelowna location for years. Its drool worthy.

Well, I've had my share of Mary Brown in asia and it was fantastic. However, I can't vouch that they can maintain the same quality here as other international favourites such as KFC certainly hasn't.

Still, would love to see more new food and beverage venues opening up at Brentwood mall. With far less new shops compared to competitors such as Metrotown, etc., this is the only way to ensure success.

Mary Brown's is not the same as Marrybrown in Asia. Don't know if they were inspired by the original Mary Brown's (started in Newfoundland in the 60's).

I was going to mention this. I can't put my finger on why, but BC has a very strong "support local" mentality* compared to other parts of the country. I see it everywhere I go in the province.

*provided that the local place is actually good

I was reading about the new Sweet Victory opening at Brentwood on Facebook and one of the comments said Finally something that isn't Asian is opening up.

Will LL Bean open before Christmas? I haven't been there in a few weeks to see how the progress is going.

They were hiring a store manager in May but no other positions so maybe end of October/November? This Times Colonist article said October:

I popped in today, interior is being worked on but I have no idea how to judge, it looks pretty near the start of things. I will add the place was crazy busy, all the tables outside tim hortons were being used. The plaza was pretty full and a constant stream of people coming and going to the skytrain. Gram has its signage up but still had the windows covered. So it must be getting closer to opening.

from the outside, the hoarding is all gone now

this is going up where the taqueria place will be going, they must be getting ready to install windows finally

The Earls location, not sure how big it is inside, will it be on one level or two? it was previously marked as where "Prince" was going to go

And back to the discussion of the old Starbucks - the outside windows are papered up but you can see through the gate screen. The backroom has had its light on the whole time and as you can see it was just left as is, syrups, cups, gift cards etc. almost like they were told to get out quickly and had to abandon everything lol like a disaster was incoming.

Maybe they want to use the old Starbucks space for the next Stephen King Horror movie backdrop with Zombies or something...

I think Neptune Seafood is above the Earls from looking at the directory map?

The old leasing plans from January 2020 showed the space as 2 level, since there is an internal elevator and star,
but that could just be walled off now as an entrance to Nepture upstairs (?)

It seems like it would make more sense for Earls to be upstairs and have access to the rooftop patio? If they were downstairs the patio would eat into the plaza.

The Cactus Club was going to be two storeys + the rooftop patio I believe.

Looks like the cooler (sandwiches, etc) next to the counter was ripped out.. look at the floor tiles.

Weird to leave it like that for so long though.

if it's only on one level it would be the smallest Earls, because looking at the floor plan it's not much bigger than the Sephora and that store is pretty small and there is no space for outdoor seating on the plaza level.

Still no movement on any of the listed retailers like JAC and Suit Supply. The gelato place has now been papered over so they must be getting to work on the interior.
