There is all kinds of black paint going up on all sides of the Walker Center Parking Garage. Hopefully it is more than just lots of black paint.

For example, the colorful and flamboyant owl against the black backdrop on the Impact Hub building next door is awesome. Would love to see something similar.

Yeah, that owl is my personal favorite mural downtown. That and the flamingo one on the new ‘the exchange’ building.

L’oriol Plaza (aprox 350 S & 400 E) - 60 units - demolition of several old and historic structures (including an old Lutheran Church) currently underway


255 S State - 2 buildings (12 floors & 7 floors) 190 units & ground floors restaurant/ retail space - under construction


Lotus Republic SLC - 6 floors & 80 units - under construction


Lotus 300 - site currently used as staging for Lotus Republic across the street. Construction will likely begin when that project finishes.


Hardison - 7 floors & 138 units - construction appears nearly complete.


144 S Apartments (500 E) - 5/6 floors & 110 units - site has been cleared and ready for construction.


aQui355 - 60 units - demolition


The Citizen - 7 floors & 264 units - demolition has completed of the office buildings and they appear to be digging

/\/\/\ with the Sundial Tower and FFKR/Gensler's tower at 465 Main, and then 702 Main we will see activity along Main Street stretch down to almost 8th south. Then the Sears Block to 9th. In 10 years we should see 5 story+ mixed-use buildings stretching from 9th south to north temple on main Street.

Planning Commission agenda for October 12 just went up (no project PDFs yet) and it's going to be a whopper:

• Union Pacific Hotel Time Extension Request – No public hearing
• Sugar Town/Snelgrove Ice Cream Factory Design Review at approximately 850 & 870 East 2100 South
• Planned Development at approximately 144 South 500 East
• Neighborhood Industry Parking structure at approximately 439 West 600 South
• Gabbott’s Row Planned Development at approximately 1448 &1470 S Main Street
• The Huxley Planned Development & Design Review at approximately 74, 64, & 52 South 600 West 100 South
• Bumper House Design Review & Planned Development at approximately 1050 S Washington Street
• The June Design Review at approximately 636 South 300 West
• Bar Establishment Conditional Use at approximately 1508 South 1500 East
• Modifications to the Kensington Tower Design Review at approximately 89 East 200 South

Glancing over the agenda, that last one in particular for Astra/Kensington is interesting:

A request by Emir Tursic for approval of modifications to an earlier Design Review approval to develop a 40 story, 488-foot-tall mixed-use structure which includes 376 residential units and 1,600 square feet of retail space. The applicant received Design Review approval from the Planning Commission on November 13, 2019. Since that time, the applicants have modified their design to include changes to approved exterior building materials and corner and front yard setbacks. In accordance with section 21A.59.080, these types of modifications to the approved Design Review plans require approval from the Planning Commission.

The height may be a typo (448' is the previously approved height) or we are in for a treat.

...I never hold my breath for these kind of things, but if it DID happen, it would actually be visually taller than the COB and Wells Fargo and others. I mean, it WILL be taller at 448, but at 488 it would also LOOK taller. I'm in.

Just needs five more feet to be an "official" skyscraper according the Council on Tall Buildings and Urban Habitat. 493 ft = 150 meters! Do it!

Ok, I officially got my hopes up for 488ft! It could be a typo however wasn’t it supposed to be 39 stories and 448ft? From what was just posted it is now 40 stories and 488ft. That would be 2 typos, so just maybe there are some significant details that will be revealed?

Yeah, my hopes are up as well.

I don’t know if this is why, so it is entirely speculative on my part, but I always thought that if the developer and the pawn shop came to a compromise and they added an alley access of some sort, it might push the tower upwards to compensate.

I’m sure I’m wrong, but that was something I had thought could happen.

I also have now gotten my hopes up as well. I did some digging and the official page for Astra Tower on the Kensington Investment Company website now describes the tower in detail as a 40 story tower. However all the old posts and press releases from the site all said 39 stories. I highly doubt there would be that many typos, this tower may very well be getting taller.
