Yes, the Douglas crossing will be fully closed but I can’t see a separate pedestrian overpass being built right beside the currently planned overpass.

The best I see happening is wider pathways added onto the Willingdon overpass which is good enough for Costco access. As long as Still Creek Ave remains industrial, which it should, there isn’t much draw for pedestrians.

Oh I thought the new overpass was going to be located further from Douglas. Overpasses over Lougheed/Kingsway seem like higher priority projects that would actually get used.

It’s going to be from Douglas at the current Norland intersection on the South side to Holdom on the North side.

You are just nit-picking. Bus riders there may be small compared to skytrain commuters. Nevertheless they are there.

You have unfounded high regards for a regional transport agency that does not even provide public toilets at busy train stations. Vending machines for the public? Lol you are making me laugh.

Yes, it will be cut off to. Bikes and pedestrians will have to take new Holdom Ave overpass.

The 129 is the only bus that stops at Patterson Station, with a stop on one side for loading and a stop on the either side for unloading passengers. Patterson is the least used station on the original Expo Line.

I'm with you on public washrooms - and considering there are already staff washrooms it shouldn't be * that * hard to expand (FYI I'm not an expert and don't expect it to be as easy as a simple home washroom reno).

While I haven't checked every station, Edmonds does have vending machines.

Much easier to maintain a vending machine than a public bathroom - especially because it's not TransLink doing the maintainin in the case of the former.

The 129 gets 68 boardings an hour... split fairly evenly between Patterson, Gilmore and Holdom. It's safe to say that any retail opened around the station would quickly become a bank or dental practice.

Burnaby Transportation Plan
Quote:
Burnaby is developing a new Transportation Plan, “Connecting Burnaby”, to update and replace our current transportation plan, which was adopted in 1995. “Connecting Burnaby” will guide transportation planning and policy decisions in Burnaby for the next 30 years. The new Burnaby Transportation Plan envisions a transportation system that “… will contribute to a vibrant and prosperous community by connecting people, places and goods; providing safe, accessible and sustainable transport options and choices for all people; and, supporting the health and ecology of the environment."

I'd love to buy a hotdog in the summer after a jog through the park I have a feeling an ice cream truck would also do well in the summer considering the amount of foot traffic and how well-used the tennis courts are. Permanent retail probably doesn't have a place at Patterson station, but there is more than enough pedestrian traffic on sunny days.

History is bound to repeat itself. Trips made by car in Burnaby / New West declined from 78% in '94 to 70% in '17 (p. 24). The transportation plan has set goals to further reduce the SOV mode share, to 50%, 33%, and 25% by 2030, 2040, and 2050, respectively (p. 33)

The city also targets zero emissions from transportation by 2050 (p. 34).

Page 126 has an interesting map. If I'm reading it correctly, the long-term outlook for Kingsway is only two lanes plus transit. The only significant stretches of road wider than that are Marine Drive (four lane plus transit), Lougheed Hwy (four lanes), Garglardi Way (four lanes) and Hastings St. (four lanes plus transit). One assumption is full regional mobility pricing would be in effect. Does anyone know if a mobility pricing plan has been released anywhere?

Keltic (Developers of Paramount in Richmond) are launching "O2" soon. I think this rendering is new.

I think we saw this project briefly on some city document. Looks fine but the location is odd, as it looks like an old walk-up just north of it would remain without redevelopment potential? Also, the name of this project is stupid.

They already have a presentation center and showroom set up at the old IHOP location on Kingsway and Royal Oak (....or rather just slightly west of Royal Oak, ...next door to the 7/11)

I'm not sure if they're open for visitors yet though, but they've been setting it up for weeks now.

Yes, it's rather odd that they didn't just acquire that lot just to the north of them with that walkup and maybe add a lowrise non-market component to their project, and get more density allocation from the city to build their highrise tower much taller.

Maybe the owner of that lowrise lot simply wouldn't budge on not selling.

This is the one we saw previously. It seems to suggest that the project is south of Moda, so maybe there will be space for another tower?

Oh yeah just thought I'd share here the Burnaby Transportation Plan Draft in case it hasn't be shared before. They have hosting a virtual open house this tuesday.

For me, I scanned through the walking, cycling and public transportation section. The "Big Move 2030" phase one cycling network is a decent start. I am most excited about their "30 years long-term plan" where they are expanding the cycling network by a lot.

What do you guys all think?
