But who would bear the cost of relocating the power entrances on adjacent properties or across the street to be underground?

With the streets ripped up for reconstruction it's not that much of a cost. Entrances from underground look cleaner than from poles too. As a downtown homeowner I'd be fine with paying a reasonable fee to get the big entrance pipe and cabling/telephone line spider web off my house and out of LOS.

Are there any line burying projects in NB planned this fall other than a single uptown SJ block (where SJ Energy is basically doing it for free)?

And isn't long term maintenance less expensive if they're buried as opposed to being exposed to wind, freezing rain, snow, etc?

The new name for this business will be LaRouère fabrique de chocolat, and, according to Huddle, will be setting up shop in the "St George Street Urban Quarter." I had to look that one up, but this term has been coined by Downtown Moncton Inc., and refers to the "infill and redevelopment of key sites on St. George Street", and, as we, know, there has been increasing gentrification occurring in the central part of St George Street over the last several year.

LaRouère makes single-origin chocolate, grown from a single geographic region, from scratch on site. They get their organic cane sugar from Brazil and their raw dried and fermented cacao beans from tropical zones such as Mexico, Peru, Vietnam, Philippines and Tanzania.

Customers will be able to take part in individual and group tasting workshops, sample cacao beverages and purchase roasted cacao nibs and beans, and dark, milk and white chocolate at their boutique.

The precise street address of the new chocolate boutique still has not been publicly released, but renovations are currently actively ongoing.

There will be retail right on the corner of Highfield/Gordon (as well as the lobby entrance). The rest of the ground level will be taken up by enclosed parking. I agree however this isn't absolutely ideal.

According to Retail Talk & Share, interior fit-up is starting in that renovated brick building on the NW corner of the Main/King intersection.

Anyone have any ideas?

Just to update from one of the other threads - the renovations are apparently for a non retail commercial business of some form.

Good to see that this carefully restored heritage building will be getting a tenant!

There was an article in the T&T today about copper theft from the facade of St. Bernard's Rectory at the corner of Botsford/Queen.

Buried in the body of the article was info regarding the new fate of this iconic building.

The original plans were to create a small boutique hotel, and the building had been gutted in preparation for renovations to that end, but then the pandemic happened, scuttling the plans. The building was then put up for sale again, but the signs came down about 4-6 months ago. Apparently, renovations have now begun to convert the building to contain seven apartments (presumably high end).

It is good to see the last vulnerable Gothic pillar of the downtown core being repurposed and preserved.

The were removed the pavement between the sidewalk and the building today when I was heading to work. I wonder if there is going to be some sort of exterior component?

The old brick building on the corner of Archibald and St. George is being fitted for a new Beer and coffee shop on the lower level. They are also fitting for office space in the higher levels. To my knowledge, they already have 1 tenant and are looking for a 2nd. The name of the street-level tenant... Brix

Thanks for the info. To be clear, Brix is the name of the coffee and beer shop?

The second level is being renovated for the operations centre of a local corporation (probably BioScript Solutions). The third level is being renovated for higher end apartments.

I would suspect excavation beginning very shortly. I'm sure they would like to have the foundation poured before the snow flies. As a six storey concrete building, I expect another tower crane in the downtown sometime soon (well, maybe the springtime - it depends on how aggressive they want to be with the timeline).
