Looks to be a passenger flight? Arriving gate is D75, and will return to DRW in 2 days as QF102.

We are getting there but definitely not close to what it was pre-COVID. The frequencies are way off now, we used to have daily or more service from many of these carriers, and now it is anywhere from 1-4 per week. So still good to keep the foothold, but nowhere near the max daily departures we saw before. But I am certainly not complaining, keeping this many carriers is a huge plus, even at reduced frequency, it means we stay relevant in the route network, and then frequencies can be adjusted as traffic recovers. We have such an enviable roster of both destinations and carriers, the fact we are holding on is a positive sign.

Out of curiosity, why would it be returning to a small place like Darwin? What significance does DRW play in Qantas' route scheme? A refuelling stop en route to Europe? Just asking.
Thank you.

Seems like Lufthansa has extended their Munich - Vancouver route until January 16, 2022.

^ excellent news. Perhaps a precursor to eventual year-round service.

Having MUC added to LHR, AMS, CDG and FRA as year-round European destinations wouldn’t be a bad thing!

QF on its way back to DRW as I write this.

I’m usually more interested in International long-haul but have noticed Air Canada has been flying mainline A320s on some local routes such as YXT, YXJ and YXY. YXY has been flown mainline in the past but pretty sure YXT and YXJ haven’t since AC took over CP.

I love the (totally by accidental acronym) exotic sounding name "QANTAS," and the red 'roo design. Would love to see them year round.
I wonder if out of this chaoes, new air routes might someday grow. (Like Jet Blue to Newark and Boston). Yes, it'll take a while, but interesting to think of a"shift" in route growth dynamics.

I would love to see a connection to South America from YVR, whether it'd be to Lima or to Sao Paulo. I'm no expert when it comes to this sort of stuff, but I really do think if such flights were to exist and were timed correctly with our flights to Asia, it would do wonders.

With Vietnam Airlines getting the FAOC from Canada back in June, It would be neat if they started new route between YVR and Vietnam.

Also it would be cool to see Singapore Airlines make a return to YVR but I doubt they'd return as they currently serve SEA.

Destinations I'd like to see regardless of what airlines fly them would be; Singapore, Athens, Rome, Madrid or Barcelona, Lima or Sao Paulo, and heck maybe even Tahiti. Some of these could be seasonal, but they would be neat routes to add to the list of destinations that are currently served at YVR.

Some of these seem reasonable. However Vietnam seems out of the question, since they don't even have flights to the US yet. South America is a possibility but it takes a lot of equipment.

YVR-South America has been discussed ad-nauseam on here.

Vietnam Airlines doesn't even fly to LAX, the largest market in North America from Vietnam. They're not flying to Canada anytime soon, if ever. Applying for the rights to fly to Canada, and flying to Canada are two different things. And if they did fly to Canada, it would probably be YYZ.

Leisure destinations such as Athens, Barcelona etc have higher chances of happening, since business demand is in the gutter and leisure travel will bounce back first. This being said, for now, AC seems happy to funnel those passengers through YYZ and YUL.

As for Tahiti, you had 3 airlines flying YVR-Tahiti recently. None of them sold local seats on the flights. That should tell you something.

I wasn't aware of that it was discussed that many times on here so my apologies.

Out of curiosity, why do you think they'll never fly to Canada ? Is the market here not worth the effort ?

I thought the reason they couldn't sell seats between YVR and Tahiti was due to stuff behind the scenes. I think it was stuff relating to with the bilateral agreements ? I do remember seeing something about Tahiti and bilaterals a while back on YVR Spotters on FB.

I guess one can dream that there would be a direct flight to Vietnam. South America would be cool to have but if it's been talked about for so many years and nothing has materialized... I guess it'll remain as a pipe dream.

The approval to fly to Canada is mostly for non-scheduled purposes, for repatriation flights, etc.
Scheduled service is a pipe dream. LAX is a bigger fish to fry. When that one is fried, then maybe they'll launch Canada. Not before.

Incorrect.

Canada-France bilateral agreement from 1977, which is still valid and in force.

Scroll down to the Annex section. Route 3.

Nah, just ignore the bitter troll from Montreal. He just likes hanging on the YVR thread because nothing interesting ever happens at YUL.

Now all that makes sense, thank you for clarifying it all for me. I appreciate it a lot.

On an unrelated note, there seems to be a China Southerns A330 arriving from Beijing Daxing Airport tomorrow.

All China flights must be so empty right now since Canada doesn't recognize the poor vaccine they have been using on their citizens. I genuinely wonder how that's going to go in the future. Anyone know is China is doing the same for those with mRNA vaccinations?

ninjakafi_81, you're soon going to realize that there are 2 kinds of people on these forums. Ones that know what they are talking about and can answer the questions you have, and then the ones (like the poster above), who doesn't know much and spends his time resenting people that do.
