CLEAR BAG POLICY
To ensure a safe environment for the public, eliminate unnecessary contact at entry gates, and to accelerate fan entry into the stadium, Commonwealth Stadium and the Edmonton Elks have implemented a Clear Bag policy that limits the size and type of bags that can be brought into the stadium. Exceptions to this policy will be made for all medically necessary items after proper inspection.

Commonwealth Stadium strongly encourages fans to not bring any type of bags, but fans will be able to carry the following style and size of bag, package, or container:

Bags that are clear plastic, vinyl or PVC and do not exceed 12″ x 6″ x 12.” (Official Edmonton Elks team logo clear plastic tote bags will be available starting August 7th at team store outlets or at Shop Elks)

What is this a money grab?

People should be aware of stadium policies so it is ultimately on them, but what a way to piss off 50% of your fans and in such a way that it caused a serious amount of frustration and confusion at the gate.

This is the third home game of the year. I saw some leniency the first game but it should be clear by now.

They should've given away clear bags instead of those dumb t-shirts the first game though. I bought one this time around.

There are not as many season ticket holders as there once was and many looked like this was their first or only game of the year.

The process and communication was poor.

EDMONTON, AB - Oilers Entertainment Group (OEG) announced today enhanced COVID-19 health and safety requirements at Rogers Place. Starting with the first Oilers pre-season game on September 28, 2021, and for the foreseeable future, fans aged 12 and older must present proof of one of the following for entry into Rogers Place:

Proof of full COVID-19 vaccination received at least 14 days before the day of the game (the full series of a Government of Canada accepted COVID-19 vaccine or combination of accepted vaccines). Either electronic or paper records will be accepted. Albertans' immunization records are easily viewed online and available on cell phones through MyHealthRecords or by downloading the MyHealthRecords app.
A negative COVID-19 test result from an approved testing provider taken within 48 hours of the game's scheduled start time (for example: if a game is on Thursday at 7:00 PM, the COVID-19 test must be taken any time beginning 7:00 PM on Tuesday)
OEG also requires all employees, volunteers and contractors be fully vaccinated against the COVID-19 virus with a Health Canada approved vaccine or combination of vaccines at least 14 days prior to September 28, 2021.

OEG is committed to providing a safe working environment for our employees, as well as a safe environment for our customers and members of the public with whom we interact regularly.

After careful deliberation with stakeholders including the NHL, WHL, live entertainment promoters, our fans and Alberta Health, we believe these changes are not only vital to the safety of our fans and staff, but also critical in the fight against COVID-19 as we welcome fans back to our venue and do our part for the safe reopening of our city, province and country. We will continue to monitor the situation and provide more information on our venue COVID-19 policies in the coming weeks.

We thank our fans and our team members for their cooperation in ensuring we are able to welcome guests back to Rogers Place.

Good news indeed about Oilers and Rogers Place. But the news release does not comment on masking requirements which will be what?

My understanding is that as per AHS regulations we will need them if masking is still in-place and or when not drinking or eating until such a time that requirement is removed similar to a restaurant.

Recognition of Edmonton Oilers Greats: A new and exciting area for fans to celebrate Edmonton Oilers of distinction is also in the early planning stages with more details to be announced later in the season.

Media Wall of Honour: The Club is also pleased to be adding more names to its Media Wall of Honour later this season. The 2022 induction class will be selected and announced in the new year.

I remember the days of 60 thousand Eskimos fans. This is pathetic.

There are no owners of the team. The BOG is to blame for all of this.

The season ticket holders are leaving and the younger generation has been lost to the NFL and other sports so there you are.

I'm blown away by how many friends get together to watch the NFL at pubs but rarely, if ever, attend CFL games.

Winnipeg, Ottawa and Hamilton seem to do ok with the younger fans. Sask always does well so I don't need to mention them.

I think the issue in Edmonton is the name change has turned a lot of fans away and now they need to try and build that next generation.

I also think the vaccine requirements turned some people away this past weekend too.

Needless to say, this team has a lot of work to do in the public in the next 2-3 years to get things on the right track again.

CFL is boring AF. You have like a 75% chance of making the playoffs, and like 9 teams, compromised of players who have no other life skills than to play pro football, but weren't good enough to make the NFL.

CFL is a semi-pro league. Keep it family focused and cheap tickets and good food options and sure I may attend a game again once we get past this pandemic... which... last I checked, we were in the middle of

Perhaps that's affecting attendance a bit?

I doubt the name change has had any significant change in attendance from the under 30 crowd. They were already not tuned in.

You missed players that are anti-vexers but the team expects you to be vaccinated or negative to attend. I grit my teeth as the "largess" of the EE Football Club pandering to people who want a test and then attend. FFS - I would not attend a game there ever again until they require fully vaccinated proof - and not the bs test at the gate.

^I work out at the Commonwealth Rec Centre weekday mornings and this morning the Mexican Men's and Women's 7s teams came in mid-work out (pretty neat). Half the gym is being closed for 7s teams from now until Friday and then the whole thing closes Saturday and Sunday to the public.

I hope attendance is strong this weekend!
