I am watching RDI they called the election for Trudeau but still only 10 to 15% of the votes have been counted in Ontario and Quebec ridings what the hell ?

What a waste of time.

The seat distribution is almost identical to the last time.

The CPC wins the popular vote (again), but loses the election (again).

And the federal treasury is out $600M on JTs gamble on a majority government.

The country is the loser.

Singh gets to stay. I believe O'Toole will be allowed another kick at the can. Blanchet isn't going anywhere. Paul has got to go.

And whither JT? Will the knives be coming out now that he has delivered a second straight minority, and failed to live up to expectations, calling an unnecessary election???

JT will stick around for 18-24 months I think, but I believe the writing is on the wall, and he will step down in late 2023, allowing for a leadership convention anointing a new leader.

If you look at the election map, the federal Liberal Party doesn't really exist outside the GTHA, Ottawa, greater Montreal, the lower mainland and areas of Atlantic Canada. In the vast majority of the Canadian landmass, the Liberals don't matter.

Landmass is meaningless. This isn’t the US with its archaic Electoral college. In population centres (aka most cities excluding mine) the majority of people aren’t Conservative.

Conservatives need serious help to win in GTA to be 1 or 2 points behind in the popular vote in Ontario but still lose the seat count over 2 to 1. They will need some sort of serious outreach efforts to new canadians. GTA 55 seats still a virtual wall of Liberals. People mock Westerners voting Tory en masse but its nothing like in the GTA and the Liberals.

CPC 1,386 22.8 %
GRN 1,964 32.3 %
LPC 1,099 18.1 % *actually an independent
NDP 1,204 19.8 %

Mainstreet Research did a riding poll over the weekend, and I think it's now safe to it was complete garbage.

CPC 27%
GRN 20%
NDP 13%
PPC  5%

I'm glad to see the GRN winning two seats. Hopefully they will have their act in order next time around and win at least 10 seats.

A viable GRN caucus in Parliament would be good for the country.

Allow me to sympathize with the conservative (particularly Western) forumers for a moment. As a young person I voted Conservative and resented the hell out of Ontario and the GTA. The thing is though, the population distribution is what it is. That’s democracy. Eastern Canadians aren’t going to care about the oil industry when our house is on fire and every CPC leader has the policies of an arsonist. Urban centres aren’t going to favour a party that’s hitched its wagon to a rural, bigoted base. Anti science views aren’t going to win over the majority of people during a pandemic. The problem isn’t that O’Toole moved the party to the centre and was still punished. The problem is he had to drag his caucus kicking and screaming and no one with eyes or ears can forget that.

Nonsense. The Prairie provinces vote conservative at much higher margins than the GTA votes Liberals. And that's exactly why the 905 are swing ridings. How many swing ridings in Alberta and Saskatchewan by contrast?

This kind of sour grapes bullshit after any Liberal victory hurts the CPC from developing a genuine platform to court votes in suburban Ontario.
