It’s still disheartening to see them getting so many votes. My FB is filled with relatively normal people (I just mean not the usual suspects who post this sort of thing) saying things like “If you voted PPC, go ahead and unfriend me. You have freedom of speech, but not freedom from consequences - such as losing friends over your — beliefs.”

I think those numbers are a positive. It is showing that that constituency have abandoned the conservatives. It is also showing that it is an extremely small group of around 3%.

The goal should be to ensure the Conservatives know full well there is nothing to be gained by even trying to satisfy that group.

The PPC belongs at the far extreme of Canadian values just like the communist party.

My guess is that PPC will score higher than that in Ontario though, and especially on the Prairies.

Angry right wing stuff doesn't resonate in Atlantic Canada.

Every election night I ask myself: why am I at home and not on TV?

We won't be seeing the — flying on Parliament Hill anytime soon.

Sad to see the NDP lose out in SJE, although to the Libs.

PPC currently at 1,200 votes in Long Range Mountains. B’ys, if ye hates immigrants that much, we can just continue to never send any there ever as we have been since the late 1800s.

The one consolation: locally popular Conservative candidate there likely to lose to the incumbent Liberal and that PPC vote is greater than the margin of victory.

Of course not. Well, PPC aren't Nazis anyway so that's silly.

Even so we're only talking about 10% support in the best case scenario (for them).

Good to see the Cons vote splitting effect, lets have more fringe parties on the right!

Vote motivation leans that way however, the Trump/QAnon effect, but sometimes just a protest vote.

I don't disagree that many of them do appear to be insane.

Jenica Atwin seems to be in a close battle. Maybe switching wasn't the smart thing...

Hard to say. Considering how the Green party support has collapsed across the board, she was probably toast either way.

That said, looking at the NB results so far, it's all unchanged. Incumbants are taking it all.

The only race is Freddy, so Jenica's crossing might have been a good thing for her. If the results stay like this, Freddy may not be decided until the MailIns are counted.

Atwin losing in Freddy at present to the CPC challenger.

CPC now at 9 seats in Atlantic Canada (up from 4 seats in the last parliament).

Wow I would have thought the NDP would’ve gotten at least 1 seat in Atlantic Canada.

Let alone the only way. I mean, the hundreds of times the wealth possessed by the top global 5% has to multiple just in order for the wealth of the bottom 50% to double is absurd. According to the Guardian, the richest 8 people have as much wealth as the bottom 50%. Besides, if anything, the major problems caused by the current system are getting worse rather than better. The main reason why we've been practically paralysed as a global society in terms of any large scale mobilization against climate change is that the wealthy who are mostly insulated against its effect spend vast amount opposing progress by propagating doubt amongst the general public about climate change's actual existence. make people fear any change due to the tenuous economic position many people occupy, confuse the public through the green washing of consumer products, persuading everyone that it's an issue of individual responsibility (and a fairly hopeless one at that) in order to dodge any systemic critiques.

It also doesn't make sense to claim that any possible alternative has "failed" because one alternative seen in about 1/3 of the world failed after being vigorously opposed for decades by about 2/3 of the world (it isn't called the cold "war" for nothing). Any system is likely to fail under such pressure regardless of its merits. But regardless, the failure of authoritarian republics with command-style economies has little relevance to anyone seeking an expansion of democracy when those models represent the opposite. I happen to believe in and support both democracy and the power of the market. I'd just prefer to combine the two so that democracy isn't just restricted to narrow aspects of live when "work", which for most people plays a much bigger role in their life, remains predominantly authoritarian. Not with a government controlled, command style economy, but with workers having greater control and ownership of the work place and re-distributive policies that ensure private capital doesn't amass in such as way as to dominate society. But of course, tweaking is a perfectly fine start.

Anyway, I'm not really a political person so this isn't something I'm that interested in talking about as it's a topic that can spiral off into time-consuming tangents. I just get annoyed sometimes when people defend a system that causes so much harm based on tautological reasoning. People can get so mired in the normativity of the current system that it's hard for them to imagine anything different.
I strongly disagree with pretty much everything you've said here, but I don't often have the desire or time to pursue a discussion at length, so I'll leave it here on this election day. I realize that my short and snippy contributions come off like Statler and Waldorf-style sneering, and I do regret that. There are some pretty great posters on SSP engaging in compelling discussions that I can only read and admire with envy, and this topic would be right up their alley as well.
