I have been wishing for this for years. For some strange reason, people keep stopping on the traffic circle to let traffic off Salisbury Rd. and it ends with traffic backed up Wheeler and West Main. I don't see this behavior on any other traffic circle in the city.

Very good point. If you could come off Salisbury directly into your own lane, the flow would be much better.

I hate this. I've had this happen multiple times. If I'm waiting to enter the circle and someone stops to let me in, I honk at them and wave them on. They think they're being kind, but they're causing more traffic issues. I usually get a dirty or confused look when I do it too.

I wish the D.O.T. would put a sign on the rail overpass above the circle saying "NO STOPPING ON TRAFFIC CIRCLE". Not that it would work.

Our "problem" is we are too polite and like "taking turns". (ie: Baig to Wheeler, Wheeler to traffic circle)

Like stopping on a street when people are trying to jaywalk or a car is trying to come out of a driveway. More dangerous, even if you're just trying to be polite. Very small town and not compatible at all with higher traffic areas.

My car was hit on the side last year when someone stopped on a busy 4 lane to let a driver come out of a parking lot to cross 3 lanes of traffic. The other driver tried to blame me...

In this mornings newspaper there was a story that said they still have a lot of work to do on both sides of the river, even after the bridge is opened. Could there be another lane added for the vehicles coming off Salisbury Rd? People stopping/slowing to let those vehicles in, isn't the safest situation.

I doubt that was part of the RFP.

I think they were referring more to connecting the bike lanes to the trail systems on either side.

This situation could easily be rectified at minimal cost, but DTI probably has strict criteria for when an extra lane is added to a roundabout, and traffic volumes on Salisbury Road probably aren't enough to trigger it. If however it is deemed a safety hazard, they might make an exception. Maybe you should contact them with your concerns.

Honestly, I can't see it happening. Like you said, there wouldn't be enough traffic to warrant the cost of doing it. So I don't think I'll contact them.

I wonder how long it will take for traffic patterns to return to normal. Vaughn Harvey was stop/go beyond Main Wednesday about 4 pm when I was visiting my mother in the old west end..

They had Wheeler shut down to finish paving where they were installing the storm drain, it was about by around 4:30 or 5. Apparently this is part of the project too.

I guess they got to try out their rescue procedures last evening. There was a small boat that rode the tidal bore and got stuck in the mud under the bridge. Moncton & Riverview fire and rescue crews participated.

The boat was in the river while the tide was as out as could be. They got stuck on the bottom.
Tidal boar came in while the fire departments were talking to them from shore.. almost knocked them out of the boat.

Once they had some water they were off and running... but then beached it again. Then they were pulled out on the Riverview side.

OK. The story in todays newspaper said the boaters rode the wave, I shouldn't have assumed. I wonder how they got stuck in the first place?

Right before the boar arrives, as the tide is completely out... there are spots where there is less than an inch of water.

The river widens faster than it deepens. They may need buoys to show the deepest channel.

OK. So they launched their boat at low tide, not realizing how shallow the water was and got stuck.

I think as time goes on and the river grows, that we'll see more boats in the water. After all there used to be ships in the river at one time!
