I just walked through Brunswick Square for the first time in years. Good lord. 90% of the mall MUST be empty. I hope the developers come up with something. What a blight on an uptown that is going through a renaissance.

What's surprising is how few tenants relocated to other uptown locations. Most just closed.

It has to be a real estate development play. There's no way you'd leave that many storefronts empty without some sort of ulterior plan for the property. If they were looking for tenants they'd be renting out spaces for literal pennies if they had to, so something's up.

Do we have a formal count of what tenants are still there?

House of Chan, Cora's, Pizza Hut, Lawton's, Tim's, a shoe store, Booster Juice, Mother Nature's... that would almost fill out a city block.

Thai Express, running store, a store that replaced the Little Shop of Science, the sushi stand, the store across from the former Hallmark, Scotiabank, the Black Historical Society of NB, John's, and the sewing store (I think?). Didn't go up to the third floor but i'm guessing it's mostly empty. Everything at the Shoppes of City Hall is gone save for Rocky's.

I also noticed the second floor restaurant(s) at Market Square have bit the dust, as well as other stores on that level aside from the new music store. The restaurants on the ground floor with patios have survived.

Anyway, i'm guessing something's up with B-Square beyond just sitting empty for the sake of sitting empty.

Another odd thing was that even with all the stores closed the foot traffic wasn't THAT bad. There were people all over the place in there.

10's of thousands of NB'ers are living off the government, with nothing to do other than wander around.

I would say the timeline of that project will really depend on who is elected to represent SJR in the next parliament. The good news is that both major parties have expressed support for it so shouldn’t be any NB Museum like scenario.

There's another development planned on Diocese property at the corner of Richmond and Waterloo that is to include ground floor commercial, non-profit offices on the second floor and 12 units of women's supportive housing on the third.

Both of these projects are in this week's PAC agenda.

According to this article on Huddle, after the PAC approval this week the project is hoping to break ground before Winter, which is phenomenal news!

The Wellington is beginning to progress upward! I'll offer my own input on this one and say once this development is complete the four-way intersection (Union, Wellington Row, Germain) is in desperate need of traffic lights. With blind corners, tight lanes, and high pedestrian volumes it only makes sense.

With Harbour Passage officially beginning to wrap around Fundy Quay soon, and the Finance Committee about to approve a 1,000 foot extension from Broad to Tin Can Beach along Sydney in 2022 (not much road to do this on between the white commercial building and the Ordnance Building, but good luck), what happened to the 2019-era plan to extend along Broad as far as Pitt? I recall it being approved.

East of Pitt, along Crown, it gets more complicated. I presume the propane business could be persuaded to let the passage cross their front lawn, and Crown can be easily narrowed as far as Mecklenberg without impacting traffic.

From Mecklenberg north to Leinster, maybe run the passage along the steep embankment between Crown and the rail spur, and replace one side of the sidewalk from Leinster to Union to get to Passage standards. Perhaps terminate (for now) in a lookout on the Courtenay Bay mudflats.

Does anyone recall if the plans indicate a planned connection to Rockwood south along Crown? Or, are there plans to add a trail or boardwalk in Marsh Creek now that it's a viable ecosystem again?
