I thought gentrification was a dirty word? Maybe we are looking for revitalization? Revitalization could include policing crime, cleaning up trash and attracting more customers without displacing the current residents.

Gentrification would be if developers came into Chinatown and knocked down the historical buildings, built some high rises, and attracted wealthy tenants with overpriced coffee and spin studios. I hope none of us want that.

What is it about fancy hipster-y type stores selling expensive merchandise and being located in the grungiest parts of town in many cities? Profit margins must already be huge.

Except for maybe Alberni, you would think Gastown's rental prices are pretty high up there even with all the empty CRUs down there.

Save-on-foods has opened a new store at Guildford Village in Surrey. The rest of the shopping place is still under construction but it says 70% leased. It will help serve the Fraser Heights area well.

This pdf shows a lot of the available spaces are leased.

yea, building C & B are still well under construction, I was surprised to see Save-on-foods was going to open already, the rest if the buildings are still a construction zone.

First time that I've seen the Save-on-Foods Kitchen branding before - looks like it's just for their deli, though.

Gucci on Thurlow is open, and the Fairmont Gucci and Omega are closed and covered over with Gucci Winter 2022. Omega will go across the hall to the south, but are now downstairs. Lucid external signage is currently being installed at PC.

Interesting that Gucci opens in the former space of Escada Boutique even though the building is applying to renovate the entire retail frontage. Hmmm.

Probably, just a one year lease til Gucci's Hotel Vancouver renos are done in Winter 2022.
So those renos at 1090 West Georgia are at least that far away.

I guess that also means the property owner won't be able to renovate even if the City approves the application permit now, or in the foreseeable future.

Why shouldn't they have faith? Gastown is a popular tourist destination and a trendy neighborhood. Despite some of the illegal activities that occur deep into the night, Gastown is a very lively neighborhood in the evening with lots of foot traffic and excellent restaurants.

Yes, the foodcourt has been refurbished and Rexall opened a couple of weeks already. There are surrounding shops that are still boarded up.

Oak + Fort will relocate as a flagship in 2022 to the large retail unit on the eastern side of Microsoft Gastown.

The old Starbucks location next to McDonald's becomes the entrance of the new Rexall store.
The food court is still very quiet even at lunch time.
