"The Main Street/ Dollarton Interchane works includes some exciting new upgrades for pedestrians and cyclists which includes:

Widening of the Main Street On-Ramp to accommodate two travel lanes and a 3.0 m multi-use path (MUP);"

How will the two lanes work? Will the they just merge or will the light alternate (between the two lanes AND the Dollarton on ramp)? Or something else? Youtube video just shows one lane from Main street.

Does anyone besides us and Ministry of Transportation staff care about this stuff?

I think “widening to two lanes” refers to just the section being built now, the on ramp from Main will remain one lane.

The only information we have on how it will operate is from the video which shows the configuration at PM peak. The two lanes will just merge when the signal phase is green to traffic from Main St and the bus lane.

During non-peak times we don’t really know the configuration or even if it is different.

Yes, that sounds right.. just some ambiguous language in the gov web page there. So Main street on-ramp users will have to contend with a merge and a traffic light. Too bad they can't glue another lane to the bridge.

So it says 3.0m path in that webpage and the graphic posted says "Reinstate 2.5m Sidewalk" so what is it, 2.5 or 3, we need to know!

It's probably 3 at the new section and narrows to match the 2.5 of the actual bridge.

The excavator has been doing a lot of work on the section near Main Street now so you assume they'll be ready to pave it soon. And the grading around the Mountain Highway new merge seems close so maybe another 2-3 weeks there.

They installed a set of signals for the metered ramp at the overpass today.

They were installing lighting next to the Main Street onramp so it seems like they'll be ready to pave soon.

Seems like it's raining heavily next week so not sure if that will cause any delays. I guess they'll want to test out the system as well so 2 weeks if I'm optimistic.

Update: They removed the concrete barriers on Main Street overnight. They also paved over the pavement under the old barriers this morning.

Still working on concrete forms on the east side of the green bridge (formerly orange bridge). Then they have to pour concrete, backfill and pave. So going to be a bit here but getting close.

Traffic has shifted to the newly paved section, and the area between the new overpass and the highway is being cleared.

Looks like they finished pouring concrete into those forms by the Lynn Creek bridge.

After a few days of no work they had an excavator doing something on the Main Street ramp last night. They dropped off a compactor so maybe we'll see it paved by Monday.

They also installed more wood froms by Lynn Creek so it seems that will still need a bit more work before they pave it.

They did have a fair amount of fill here. Hopefully paving soon!

And... did they plan a wider 3.5m MUP here just to have a wider path for walkers/cyclists or was the unspoken benefit that this would provide an alternate lane to keep traffic moving while they dug up the existing lane. Inquiring minds want to know.

I never use the Main Street onramp but is it just me or is there only a single merge light signal on the far left lane? That might be the best indicator of their plans. And I doubt they're going to build another retaining wall on the outside of where they placed that divider.

There's no road closures for the holidays so looks like it will be next week or the week after before we get to see this in action.

A tangle of fresh active transportation paths wind between Brooksbank to the west, Seymour Boulevard to the east, Keith Road to the South and above the highway to the north. These new multi-use paths represent some excellent new links to get around this area more directly and safely.

Above Keith, the new path to the west extends the Salop Trail, which runs up the (really steep) hill from Shavington to Brooksbank Elementary. People living in the new town centre at Seylynn can access this path via a new, wide, well-lit tunnel under Mountain Highway. Above Shavington, the trail remains gravel and is steep, so whereas it is great for people walking, people on bikes might not be able to take advantage. The same entrance from Bridgman Park leads under the new Keith Road and Highway 1 bridges to join up with the gravel path on the west side of Lynn Creek. Which again is gravel, so not a super choice for people cycling, but excellent for people on foot.

They finished the paving just before sunrise. It could be in a matter of weeks before the new highway ramp meter for the Dollaration Highway to Highway 1 eastbound is opened fully
