I want to see some really detailed renderings on this.

Demolition Complete For 1,100-Foot Supertall At 41-47 West 57th Street In Midtown, Manhattan

Quote:
Demolition is now complete at 41-47 West 57th Street, the site of a 1,100-foot-tall mixed-use supertall in Midtown, Manhattan. Designed by OMA and developed by Sedesco, the 63-story building will yield 119 residential units spread across 443,100 square feet, nearly 205,100 square feet of commercial space in the form of a 158-room hotel, and a 10,212-square-foot restaurant. The project is located between Fifth and Sixth Avenues and will have frontage along both West 57th and West 58th Streets. Sedesco is offering to help construct a pair of new ADA-accessible elevators to the nearby 57th Street station on Sixth Avenue, servicing the F train, in exchange for an additional 52,000 square feet.

At the time of YIMBY’s last update in June, the westernmost building was still covered in black netting and scaffolding. This structure is now razed and the entire project site from 41-47 West 57th Street lays empty, blocked off by a row of white boards along the sidewalks of West 57th Street. The void in the air space gives us a good impression at how big of a footprint the supertall will have.

41-47 West 57th Street will rise into the skyline between SHoP Architects‘ 111 West 57th Street and Rafael Vinoly‘s 432 Park Avenue and potentially eclipse the height of Christian de Portzamparc’s One57 by 96 feet. As explained in our last article, the architectural height of 1,100 feet is a With-Action incentive and is the maximum height for the project. Below is a table that shows the differences between No-Action Conditions versus With-Action Conditions, as well as the difference in square footage with the increase in hotel rooms, residences, and commercial space totaling to just over 57,000 square feet.

This building will eat another slice of the Central Park view from Top of the Rock, but it will also add to to the overall view...

The rise of the supertalls give us a much more dramatic view - on all sides. I'll trade it off for less park.

I don't even get the appeal of it. Pay some overpriced amount to be lifted 20 feet higher up? What could you possibly see at 870' that you can't see at 850'?

It's about the ride and the new perspective, not the view, per se.

The various NYC observatories are offering distinct experiences.

It's the lame box a few buildings west of the Plaza. It used to be called the Helmsley Park Lane when it was owned by Harry Helmsley.

Now it's just called the Park Lane.

The tallest one fronting Central Park with the vomit-inducing brown blank wall. It's covering up the base of 111 West 57th in the pic.

That box is the Park Lane, not the Helmsley. The Helmsley is the ornate building at extreme left in the photo, which was originally the NY Central building.

It was called the Helmsley Park Lane until Witkoff bought it.

It's not about the ride, it's about recreating it's history. That's one thing 30 Rock and the Empire State have at it's observatories that the others won't have.

This particular photo is well known, and they already have this at the ground level. Much closer to the real thing suspended in air...

Better view here....

The New York Central/Helmsley Building is not in that photo. It’s way the hell down at Park and 46th.

And people still don't get it. It's not a ride. It's not a ride. It's not a ride. There are people who get it, it will enhance their experience at the deck, and it's unique to that location. Also, I'm sure they'll make money off of it. But we've spent too much time on that already.

Here's the location in relationship to the Park Lane (top left). They are somewhat offset.
