Think we'll need to upgrade the 3 to a RapidBus?

Bit of an isolated spot right now, but things will quickly densify with a subway station close by. Eventually we will see a contiguous street life stretching from Main and 30th right through to Chinatown, or a a bit over 4 km's.
Redevelopment of Main south of Terminal up to around 5th is inevitable, but painstakingly slow.

Residents finally moving in to Main and 2nd will help, along with that new commercial building getting occupancy (the one that had the small fire )

https://curiocity.com/daves-hot-chicken-is-expanding-in-canada-with-locations-coming-to-bc-alberta/

Six months later, and a second Toronto location of Dave’s Hot Chicken has opened up in Midtown, with plans to open two metro Vancouver locations in early 2022, along with a Calgary location later on in the same year.

SO hyped for Dave's Hot Chicken to arrive in Vancouver!

Quesada the ersatz 'Mexican food' franchise continues it's expansion opening soon on West Broadway among other localities; another Mexican place is opening in the 2900 block Broadway but I won't post the name since it's an obscenity (in Spanish).

The Tap and Barrel at Olympic Village is actually pretty close. Has to be no more then a 8 minute drive away.

This location can double-dip and pull the Granville Island crowd and the south-west downtown crowd. Anecdotally, it seems like most Granville Island visitors drive and park there, and may not be interested in finding another parking spot in Olympic Village. For patrons coming from downtown, a sea bus across False Creek would make for a fun taxi to and from dinner!

Different crowd. Granville Island has a lot of tourists that OV doesn't get. All the restaurant patios on the island were super-busy this year thanks to Covid and the Bridges location has one of the best for views etc. Even earlier in the year it seemed to attract a lot of locals being "tourists in their hometown".

E-mail from Milestones:

Quote:
As of September 27th, 2021, Milestones ownership will be moving from Recipe Unlimited Corporation to Foodtastic Inc. This means that all Milestones restaurants will no longer be accepting the Ultimate Dining Card, SCENE points program, or CAA membership discounts.

As an aside, Is this how people really think?

If you're driving to a place where you intend to go drinking...you're already playing with fire, in my books.

The whole point of a neighbourhood pub or bar, in my mind, is that it's a place that you can go to in your neighbourhood. You don't have to worry about driving home half-drunk, and getting into, or causing, a horrific accident.

If this is the cultural norm in Vancouver/Canada/North America, it really is some wrong-thinking about how alcohol and driving go together.

Despite being called "Tap and Barrel", I believe most patrons go for a meal and have one or two drinks on the side. A glass of wine or a pint of beer with a steak won't be enough to impair most drivers. There is also nothing that says the "driver" can't be a DD or that patrons can't "drive" away from Tap and Barrel by haling a taxi or an Uber.

The impaired driving issue is definitely prevalent across Canada, but I think the issue is worse in small communities where alternative transportation options are slim, than in Vancouver. Growing up in Saskatchewan, I knew many people from rural areas who were proud of being able to drive their truck home while being one beer away from a blackout.

you probably wouldn't like Tokyo, you can be at a family mart and walk 3 minutes and find another family mart across the street which is a few doors down from a 7-11 which is a block or two away from a 7-11 across the street. Within a 5 minute walk from my hotel there must have been three family marts, three 7-11s and two Lawsons. No matter which one you choose the Egg Salad Sandwiches are superb.

Thumbs up

Just when you thought we had it all two (2) different Trinidadian places have opened up in Vancouver; Bara Caribbean cuisine in the Tinseltown food court and
Baby Dahl
on Commercial Drive.

Trinidadian food is largely Indian with various accents and there are only two places I know of making it locally both a long drive from where I live so I'm Happy to see somewhere new opening.

The pandemic has of course added a twist to the situation-demand has far outstripped production capability and on a visit to Bara I came up empty handed as a large catering order meant they couldn't offer anything to the eating public- the next day I had to wait over 20 minutes at Baby Dahl for a few appetisers since the previous day the place had been swamped/completely Sold Out.

If you're in the area try them out you won't be disappointed.
