It's crazy how fast the rental gap is closing considering how much higher taxes are on the Quebec side. It won't be long before Gatineau will be more expensive than Ottawa, that is unless your child(ren) go to a Quebec Cegep or University.

I think you guys might be discounting how many people commit income tax fraud by having an Ottawa address while paying Gatineau rent.

It's a lot harder to do that when you actually own a home, which involves a lot more paperwork and leaves more of a trail in Quebec.

So you're assuming property managers are taking fraud into consideration when setting the new ridiculous prices?

Could that explain why Junic offers “all-inclusive” rentals? Cable, electricity, internet are all included, so the renter doesn’t need to set up any accounts that would demonstrate he/she is living in Quebec.

Spread out across the entire market, yes it could have some effect.

Le Petit Chicago will not move to Zibi, as was planned previously. Cost, bad timing and Covid are mostly to blame. Some staff changes and logistics at Zibi also had a small part.

The owner has plans to possibly open a smaller version of Le Petit Chicago in the future.

Yeah, I know Tristan so I am not surprised at all by this.

Le Minotaure (formerly Le Bistro) is actually doing quite well for itself.

Though the quite nice micro-brewery and resto combo Le Gainsbourg (formerly Le Bop) across the street has closed down definitively. Its owners also have the Chelsea Pub, and when forced to make a choice due to the pandemic, opted to focus on the latter.

I think it might be the only COVID casualty in the Place Aubry district.

Pizzaza, 4 Jeudis, Le Troquet, Pêle-Mêle, Où Quoi? and even Boston Pizza are all still open.

*Underwhelming architecture, it looks like a commie block with a modern addition
*Wide and tall, it will obstruct the views from the bottom half of the taller buildings planned to be built behind it.

Oh yeah. It even has an eye.
