Glass skyscrapers always look tall when they're under construction and you can see the individual floors. The when the glass goes up, it takes that away and they don't look nearly as tall when they're finished.

Especially from up close. From a distance one can still see the height, of course. However, this behemoth takes up an entire block and just may break the mold from the street. I almost fell over backwards staring directly up at the WTC towers back in the late 90s.
I completely agree. To me this is why towers from the 80s with the very distinct floors can seem much taller than curtain-wall glass towers of the same height.

I wish Austin would get a John Hancock tower like in Chicago. Love Chicago's skyscrapers. It is after all the home of the skyscraper....literally. Spires! The Hancock has em and it doesn't look silly like the Fairmont
