It's finally set to officially open tomorrow at 10am. So, they'll just barely make the June date.

Still no word on the Westside quarry park. They were doing work on the south entrance last week, but not sure what the hold-up is to getting this open.

Major weak spot to Westside Park. From Marietta Boulevard to Rockdale St there are no sidewalks or bike lanes on West Marietta St. It is SUPER narrow with lots of trucks and traffic. Playing Russia Roulette would be far safer than trying to walk, run or ride a bike for this short distance.

^ That whole section of West Marietta / Perry needs a road diet. One lane each direction, a turn lane, sidewalks, and bike lanes. There's room, as it's a fairly wide street, and they would easily be able to maintain the needed space for truck turns. It could be a key route connecting all of the westside development (West Midtown) to the huge new residential areas off Perry Boulevard, while connecting to the Proctor Creek Greenway and Reservoir Park. I took an e-bike on this stretch before and it's not pleasant.

10000% agree with you. This is going to be one of the main roads people will take coming from Midtown and its disastrous. A lot of the traffic on West Marietta St are semis and they love hogging both lanes, due to how narrow it is.

I hope people take the train here. Other than Freedom Park, it’s the only one in Atlanta with a train station. The trail from Bankhead into the core of the park is so beautiful! Proctor Creek is very scenic.

It’s very scenic, though we should note the frequented overlook is a mile+ from the train station. So if you’re mobility impaired it’s not as easy to access due to how vast the park is.

So what would you suggest - moving sidewalks? I say put one foot (or wheel) in front of the other and hoof it. Or just stay home and relax on the porch and watch traffic flow by, and the occasional stray dog or cat frolic in the neighbor's yard.

I had always thought Freedom Park was just the meadow on the east side of Moreland, now I learned something!

After receiving Atlanta Department of Watershed Management approval, work is expected to start in January to move fences back toward the water reservoir, returning about 2 acres of the campus lawns to public uses—at one of the highest points in the city.

The Upper Westside Improvement District, a CID formed in 2016, is expected to help with the fencing relocation work and will oversee park maintenance, officials said. Leaders envision the greenspace as a popular destination for picnics and photos, a rival to Jackson Street bridge’s downtown vistas on the flipside of town.
