The entire area used to be the heart of the NCR's logging and later pulp and paper industry for nearly two centuries, up until the mid-2000s when Domtar shut down its operation.
The abandoned concrete structure behind the office tower is known as the Booth Board Mill. The plan at this time is to partially retain the building as part of a hotel complex.

Goodness, that's a beautiful complex. Definitely dangerous to sneak into, as noted in the comments.....loose asbestos and structural problems.
I hope the building/complex is renovated with respect to the original uses of the building, and uses the space well. Looks like it'll be a lot of work, but most definitely worth it.

Very excited for y’all too. Imma have to go visit Ottawa one of these years. I was going to last summer when the Bingham Cup (gay rugby World Cup) was going to be there, but then the virus. So not sure when now. It’s been 11 years since I lived there now! I think Halifax is next. There may or may not be a ridiculously handsome gentleman pulling me in that direction

While unlike any other large Canadian city, Ottawa's formal fabric and character continue to become increasingly interesting. It took a long time for real change to begin but its moving now.
It's very interesting to see our three 1.4 million pop. cities each establish its own different character. Calgary's has been established for a while, but it is broadening into areas beyond the once defined core. Edmonton and Ottawa are finally developing/beginning to develop in their own different ways.
