Our death rates have inched up, although not substantially compared to the winter, as well as hospitalizations. Delta IS a serious issue for parts of the country, but it is not a problem here (and will not become a problem here). If Covid has taught me anything, it's to take a deep breath and realize that the media may overstate the impacts of the virus, especially on vaccinated individuals or in areas of low spread. Look at the data, not at an article.

Wow. If you don't think that's 'legit' enough, I question where you're getting your info. WaPo gets it's info from the CDC. Maybe this will help:

"
+153,572 New Cases as of August 25, 2021"

Level of Community Transfer remains "High" for the entire continental United States
Illinois' positivity rate is between 5-7.9% which is pretty damn high, compared to just a few months ago. And you are fooling yourself if you believe that this is 'overwhelmingly concentrated in the South', because it is still literally everywhere.
My point isn't to convince you or anyone else that Covid is still very much a problem (which it is),
the point is that we will not see a return to normal, either in the Loop, greater Chicago or Illinois for that matter until people keep treating this like a serious pandemic and not just 'Covid flu'. I'm relieved that downtown is rebounding as much as it has in the past 6-8 months alone, but frankly, I don't really feel like working from home anymore, or having to constantly protect myself because other people out there have an uninformed, cavalier attitude about something they don't or refuse to understand and are the current source of viral propagation. I really REALLY don't want to spend another winter locked indoors and feeling like I'm unable to do anything, do you?? I mask up still not to protect myself, but also to potentially protect other people, in case I am infected and possibly asymptomatic, even though I'm vaccinated. I wish I could say the same for others, but unfortunately, there's a lot of selfish idiots out there who don't understand the basic concept of empathy or community.
