What Is The Weather Today? (No Mercury Jockeying!)

Quite the up and down week. Started in the low 30s, then to the mid teens, and now high teens/low 20s. Regardless, the rain has been amazing, and it’s so nice to be able to take Aurora for long walks without sweating my 🞵🞵🞵🞵 off. Despite two very below seasonal days, all of our lows have been above seasonal, oddly enough.

Another massive system is entering our airspace at the moment. Good thing we just got back from a 5 k.


Currently 16 and light rain at 4 pm. Just discovered this random little street market in the Beltline walking home from Canadian Tire with the babby. It was busier than this shot makes it look

34C with a humidex of 42 and sunny! Officially 34.0C at Trudeau airport, breaking the old record of 32.8C in 1955.

Low of 22C (humidex of 30) this morning.

The warmspot was Downtown Montreal once again at 35.0C.

This August will probably end up as consistently the most humid month we've ever had (without extremes). See the stretch at #2.

^^^ nope, nope, nope... not for me. I'd die in weather like that. Had more than enough of that this summer. It kills people.

I really don't like hot weather so the past few days around Vancouver have been very enjoyable for me.

Saturday was dry and mostly cloudy. The high at Vancouver Harbour was 20 C, the low was 15 C.

We received 4.5 inches of rain Friday night/Saturday morning in SW MB. It was a nice steady rain that our extremely dry area soaked up like a sponge.

23C, sunny and a little muggy in Moncton at 11 AM, going up to 28C later today.

The air actually feels a bit tropical. I wonder if it is being carried northward by Henri?

I'm happy the storm is going to wring itself out over New England before wandering over to the Maritimes. They are predicting up to 10 inches of rain in portions of western Massachusetts over the next two days. By the time it gets here, we will only be getting showers.

Southern/Eastern ON into Southern Quebec are in full fledge summer mode again with highs of 29-34C , humidity 35-40C. This pattern looks to continue right into Thursday before a brief reprieve Friday. More heat and humidity look to continue into next weekend and early next week.

Out on a bike ride again today and it was a bit better than yesterday, but the heat and humidity were still really intense.

West of Waterloo is Mennonite country, and while there is an abundance of excellent food and drink options on Saturdays, it is a desert on Sundays. Where you can find an establishment that is open, it likely doesn't open till noon. We had carefully planned our route to go by a convenience store that should be open, only to find it closed. Fortunately there was a community centre in a park with publicly accessible washrooms so we could fill up on fluids before heading back, otherwise we might have had to resort to Uber Eats.

Gorgeous day today, though a severe thunderstorm watch was recently issued. No clouds yet, but in Calgary, who knows

Currently 16 and full sun at noon and heading to 20 in a few. About to take the babby for a nice long walk to St Patrick’s Island Park and over to Bridgeland.





The long range has been revised down significantly, with an average high over the next two weeks of about ~17 degrees. Looks like our scorching, record breakingly/disgustingly hot meteorological summer is giving way to a prolonged, slightly below seasonal autumn. All lows, however, are forecast at seasonal or above. So, not too bad all considered. Hopefully this means farmers will be able to salvage some of the season and harvest a bit of their crops now

There is a supercell with definite rotation bisecting the northern 1/5 of the city at the moment. Sunny downtown but I can hear the thunder all the way in the East Village walking the poochy.

Edit: unsure if there was a touchdown but it underwent explosive intensification and the southern edge of it clipped downtown. No hail here, but there were high winds and heavy rain for about 10 minutes. Sunny again but looks like there are more supercells forming over the foothills.

I appreciate that you are fascinated by the often violent and occasionally catastrophic meteorological events that seem to occur more frequently in North America than in many other parts of the world. We have a lot of hurricanes, tornados, massive hailstorms and blizzards.

32C with a humidex of 40 and mainly sunny! Officially a heat wave under Canadian standards (3rd straight 32C+ day). Also breaks the old record of 30.6C from 1955 (officially 32.4C).

Low of 24C (humidex of 33) this morning. Definitely one of the warmest nights I can remember.

The warmspot was Downtown Montreal at 33.5C. 3rd straight day as the country's warmspot, Lytton better watch out.

All 3 stations on the island of Montreal, with the top 3 warmest low in Canada today beating all other stations by almost a full degree. Complete sweep of all the heat records.

Finished some golf in the north end of Calgary around 4 when the thunder and lightning started. Went to south Calgary for some food and came back up that way to lots of water on the ground. Driving north tonight and there's a nice light show to the north and east currently.

I dunno Nicko - Lytton set temperature records for three straight days earlier this year and look what happened to them on day 4!!!
