No matter what camera you use, it never has the same effect as seeing it with your own eyes. I cant tell you how many times I have seen something amazing and tried to take a picture of it and the picture being sort of a let down compared to what I saw. Downtown especially. Every single camera has a different focal distortion that even when corrected in editing software still doesnt have the same effect.

That was a panoramic that Urbannizer posted. Likely 3 or 4 photos stitched together in editing software.

Butler Park is such a great location for a skyline shot. It one of my favorite go to places. Can hardly ever find parking though. Its a great picture.

The worst is some of the parking is reserved for the Dougherty Arts Center, and is always empty.

Butler is definitely one of our better urban parks. I would say best, but I haven't seen the new Waterloo yet.

Thats what I was going to check out this weekend. The storms today kinda wrecked that. Still might go to butler park this evening though.

There's a huge parking garage right next door to the park. Honestly it's just not worth it to waste time/gas jockeying for a free spot in that tiny lot or driving a mile up the hill to find a free street spot.

The Long Center garage is usually closed. It was open for the July 4th fireworks display - people were up there by the hundreds, but last Monday it was closed again. You pretty much have to catch it open whenever there's an event going on, and with Covid...

The Hyatt garage is also mostly off limits. I've been run off there the last few times I've gone, and I did sneak back up there on Monday, but they have the top level blocked off with two SUVs. I did some inaudible cursing and took a photo out the side from the 2nd to the top level. They even have a sign that says no photography, even by hotel guests, and that you'll be escorted out.

I wonder what big wig nimby at The Catherine paid for that BS.

Thanks for sharing that pano shot urbanizer. Doesn't show 44 East or nativo next door I don't believe but it's sure impressive. I had an Uber ride yesterday with a big Indian family to the Quincy. It's already showing units I think!

Fantastic shot of Congress! The skyline is obviously amazing, but you can also tell how dense SoCo is getting, too.

The gaps in the skyline are triggering me. I wonder if we'll ever reach a point where it is fully "solid" when looking from north or south.

6XG will fill a huge gap between the Indy and austonian. And 98 red river will fill the gap between the austonian and the eastern Rainey St. Skyline fringe.

The 6x/BBVA/Republic cluster will definitely fill in a gap. The other gap is going to take longer -- will need the Railyard, 4th and Brazos and 302 W 2nd, and that whole Convention District to go tall. But I agree that the supertall and the Travis 1/2 will help the other side.

Your wonderment of a solid skyline come to fruition will outlive me, and the gaps depend on the angle to which downtown is viewed. Since the outline is pretty much established, the much needed march northward is inevitable. That's when we'll get a more solid looking downtown.

I hope not. I sincerely hope we just upzone a tremendous portion of the city and have a very expansive but patchwork skyline that never quite fills in anywhere.
