Airbnb plans to open Atlanta 'technical hub,' add hundreds of jobs

Quote:
Atlanta is Airbnb's choice for its new East Coast technology hub, the company announced today.

Airbnb, based in San Francisco, said in a news release this hub will be home to one of the company's product development teams. Plans are for the Atlanta office to become the regional base for hundreds of technical and non-technical roles.

No decision on where the hub will be located has been made other than it will be within the city of Atlanta. Airbnb will first open an office space later this year before a site is selected for the hub.

Global credit card giant Visa has been scouting Midtown office space for a significant expansion, according to multiple sources familiar with the plans.

The former headquarters of Norfolk Southern Corp. is emerging as one of the possibilities, sources told Atlanta Business Chronicle. Cousins Properties Inc., which owns the building known as 1200 Peachtree Street and recently launched renovations, declined comment.

Visa, headquartered in San Francisco, could be seeking several floors of office space, or up to 120,000 square feet.

Scripps moving Newsy news operation to Atlanta

E.W. Scripps is moving its Newsy news operation to Atlanta and will make it an over-the-air broadcast channel starting October 1.

The company, which had been based in Columbia, Missouri, expects broadcasts to reach 80 percent of U.S. households via local TV stations it already owns.

Scripps is building out a national news operation for Newsy. There are currently 58 media job openings for Newsy out of Atlanta alone listed on the Indeed website. Newsy plans to have at least a dozen bureaus nationwide and use Scripps’ existing D.C. operations.

Newsy will be based out of the same Buckhead offices where Court TV is located.

While CNN, MSNBC and Fox News are on subscriber-based platforms, Newsy will be available to anyone for free with a broadcast antenna. It’s already available on a variety of streaming platforms such as Roku, Chromecast, AppleTV, Pluto and Tubi.

American Cancer Society HQ sells for $285M, another huge investment downtown

Quote:
The former American Cancer Society headquarters will more than likely be used completely for data storage.

American Cancer Society is in the process of moving out of the 274,000 square feet of office space. The company went completely remote during the fourth quarter of 2020.
The conversion of a notable building(998,770 sq ft) downtown from commercial occupancy to data center, and at a price of $285/Sq Ft to facilitate the transition?!

What you're seeing now is the redo. It was worse before.

The building contains data equipment generators, each about the size of one of those green waste bins you see around town. They have to be trucked in my semi trucks.

As much as I hate what's here too, it's not going anywhere.
