That plan to reimagine Ontario Place really is fantastic.

According to reliable sources, 2 towers of 200m would be erected in Place de la Cité Internationale Phase 2, the announcement would be imminent, according to this source

That would close the gap between 1000 de la Gauchetière and Tour de la Bourse.

Not many lots left where you can build a 200m tower.

To be fair; iirc, buildings in downtown Montreal can't be taller than Mount Royal, which in all honesty is a rather asinine municipal policy to begin with.

I wouldnt mind this policy so much if they built closer to the limit. Mount royal is 236m. Our tallest is 205m.

Most of Montreal is not at 0m so a building will always be lower than 236m to be shorter than Mount Royal.
For example if the surface is at 10m, the tallest the building can be is 226m

Still, do they all have to be exactly 200m? Throwing in a 215m here and there surely wont hurt mount royals feelings.

Wow that Edmonton mall proposal will be a huge improvement. City Centre Mall is probably the most hideous mall in the entire country, and it was literally redone what… 10 - 15 years ago? Here's hoping the materials end up half decent.

It's in a pretty bad state right now both from a tenanting/vacancy standpoint along with it being quite a bunker. This will breathe new life into it and pair much better with other developers including ICE District, Manulife's renewal and the new LRT adjacent to it.

Not sure how serious of a proposal it is at this point, but Concord has unveiled plans for a mall underneath a section of the Gardiner:

Well Le 1000 is 215m (measured from St-Antoine).

The 200m rule will be broken one day. For now let's all just enjoy 200m becoming boring and downtown becoming a dense neighbourhood again.

I remember the days when 28 floors was the norm.

It's a good use of wasted space.

LDA20-0066 Metro 78- McKernan/Belgravia

The proposed zoning from the current (RF1) Single Detached Residential Zone(External link) to a revised (DC2) Site-Specific Development Control Provision would allow for the development of two mid-rise apartment buildings with the following characteristics:

A maximum height of 23 .0 m per building or approximately 6 storeys (previously 14.5 metres or approximately 4 storeys)

Up to 71 residential units per building for a total of 142 units (previously 55 residential units per building for a total of 110 units)

A maximum floor area ratio of 4.0 (previously 2.45)

Ground level commercial space fronting a public plaza and the 114 Street shared use path. Opportunities for commercial uses include specialty food services, retail, and personal service shops.

Vehicular and surface parking that is accessed from the proposed north-south lanes west of the properties

Given the proximity to the future mall at the Well, I'm really not sure what the appetite will be for retail here. I doubt anyone will choose to hang out under the Gardiner when there are other better alternatives nearby.
