Like how you're bulldozing through what I said right now? There's two northeast buildings. The south building has just as much 70s seafoam glass on the inside as the east building, and the parts that aren't glass are hardly heritage any more than any other stone cladding in Vancouver.

Nothing's being destroyed. The outside is actually worth keeping and will likely be left alone.

The real crime here is to wish for towers downtown, and then boo when exactly that happens. The feds do not own a site with 60+ floor clearance, so they have to use this one; they clearly also understand that we are nowhere close to enough.

So the strata at The Waterworks and Yaletown LTD lost a lawsuit with Concord Pacific (One West) over the strata's seizing of the commercial parking and roof areas (to which Concord claimed it had a lease, which was upheld).

The strata just had a Special General Meeting to approve a $1.4 million settlement with Concord.

Yes. And the only way to making extra money without selling is redevelopment.

Insist on what you want, but for me, the inside walls are worth preserving.

They can make extra money making renting out ALL of the existing spaces.

Insist on what you want, but for me, the inside walls are disposable. Please remember that you were the one who came in last page and tried to change my mind.

If the existing spaces weren't filled, and the feds didn't need new offices, then logically a tower wouldn't be considered at all.

Wow. I really like how it turned out. I can't remember seeing a building with this type of painted pattern on it before.

Absolutely love it! I knew it would turn out well from the start. It also perfectly matches the more playful and “exotic” character of English Bay.

One thing it does do is hide the architecture.
You can't really see the square windows anymore.

Looks fun and whimsical, perfect for its location. I also personally love the art piece's spanish influence. This city needs more colour, boldness and flare!

This turns out much better than the rendering. However IMO for long term aesthetic maintenance, they should have installed a cladding art which is way more permanent: perhaps a more 3-D aesthetic cladding on the walls.

In a couple of years when it is time to power-wash these walls, the artwork would've faded or peeled, then it would cost a bundle to fix it.

That's not necessarily true. Tony Cavelti added a mural to the side of his jewelry store on West Georgia in 1993. It was touched up a bit 20 years later, and still looks fine today.

It was Game 7 of the Stanley Cup finals, and having just taken a penalty, Montreal was down 1-0 at the end of the second. In other words, it was the “perfect” time for an Urban Design Panel meeting. That wasn’t a problem for me, as Hannah and I are Canuck’s fans, though some of these members were clearly hoping to catch the game. That hope proved as naïve as the belief our team will overcome their curse anytime soon.

City policy played a role in this, as it requires an “L-shaped” building on this site, meaning the non-profit/indigenous partnership who owns this sausage factory was at the mercy of their neighbour. Unfortunately, the person who owns and occupies these two adjacent townhomes refused what the design team called several reasonable offers, insisting on a “ludicrous sum” instead. Which created a huge challenge for a project seeking to provide a first of its kind form of affordable home-ownership (ALHO) in Canada.
