I was talking to my dentist about a large dental group (4 offices) in Alberta that went into receivership in 2020 and she was saying that a lot of dentists are bad business people.

I'm guessing that there is either very little or no business training as part of the training dentists take. The boom times don't last forever.

That's what Accountants are fior. And if one cannot hire an Accountant they can easily install QuickBooks or similar software and do it themselves. The software is supposed to so easy that any 5th grader could successfully use.

Surely they’d be able to lease that equipment.

Also according to this out of McGill, the dentist suicide thing is a myth.

posibly i just know my aunt who works in the feild talks about how shes had quite a few colleges that did do this in the years shes been in the feild now teaches at sait

Revera has announced that it will be closing the Parkview Place PCH on Central Park.

It will be interesting to see what will happen with this building after Revera closes down its operations... it is an older building but like 185 Smith, it's still modern enough that you would think someone might be able to find a way to renovate it and reuse it for some other purpose.

One way out of the dentist debt crisis is to join the Canadian Armed Forces as a dentist. For every month of education you have to do 2 months of service to the crown. This also the same for Doctors as well. The CAF is so short of everybody, they may cover your current debt to get you in the door.

Parkview Place is a pretty big building. I wonder if a developer will be able to do a "Smith Street Lofts" kind of rebuild on it?

Exactly what I was thinking with Parkview Place. It's a solid-looking building, looks nice with some midcentury appeal. You could do a lot with it.

I wonder what the market would be for that location... I think it might have been more marketable pre-pandemic than it will be now. Central Park is a lovely spot but the area immediately to the west can be a little rough, it's not a place everyone would feel comfortable walking around in at night.

Also, interesting to see the old Hydro building on the market... I can't believe it took a decade plus for Hydro to vacate their old HQ. It's a substantial building, I am curious to see who will snap it up. I would imagine that given its age, it must need a bit of work?

My bets are on a teardown, the land in that area is more valuable for a redevelop than a massive office structure in the middle of residential/retail land.

I totally agree. Hydro torn down and land repurposed. Parkview Place, renovated for residential, perhaps affordable housing?

Man it would be awesome to see that go up. I'd love to see that stretch of Pembina's character continue to evolve from 1960s car-oriented commercial strip to something a little more modern.
