Exactly! I was being more diplomatic than I wanted to be.

You're being too negative, yet again. There is a lot of great development & infill happening all over town, but you only seem to focus on any negatives you can find. Do you need to be reminded of the City intervening on the dual-branded hotel across from the Fox?

Do I have to remind people there are literally several mixed use developments within three blocks of this site? There’s more apartments going in on Parkway, Boulevard, and North Ave than there are drive thrus in the area. Drive thrus are a thing of the past. Despite some people clinging on to it, this corridor is already changing.

Instead of advocating for low rise suburban drive thrus, maybe those on a skyscraper page should be advocating for more density along a corridor that is already seeing major investment including a 21 story proposal two blocks east of this drive through.

Here’s a reminder of a few projects under construction or recently delivered within ~3 blocks:

-Novel O4W
-525 Parkway
-Station 464
-542 Boulevard
-Wylie Hotel
-Midtown Medical
-Empire Townhomes
-527 Parkway
-Views at O4W

Proposed projects:
-21 story residential at PCM
-4 story office at PCM
-Leon Condos
-536 North Ave condos

21 residential is not a proposal no more. I read in the ABC that a 100 million construction loan was secured for that project yesterday. edit: Oh that is different from the one around O4W park.

Correct, I’m not including the New City Fourth Ward office buildings, hotel, or residential. Or Alexan O4W off Angier. Or the PCM apartments on the existing parking deck, which are each slightly further but also walking distance to this site.

I don't believe anyone advocated for low rise suburban drive thrus. Where did you read this?

I genuinely do not understand this reply. Is Peachtree, for example, not a major thoroughfare? Being a major thoroughfare should in no way exclude a street from being designed for pedestrians in the middle of a city. My primary complaint is that this is ONE case where the city went through the trouble of planning and zoning the property for a less auto-centric future then through it out the window for a fast food restaurant.

What folks don't realize is that fast food is low risk and high return. These models can pay more for land than mixed-use projects. It's sad and frustrating, but true.

Well it is the job of the zoning in areas that should be more dense and pedestrian oriented to block these types of developments. Why Northside Drive between Marietta and 14th or Ponce from Midtown through Briarcliff is allowing anything like this when these are high growth potential corridors is utterly absurd, and these parcels that have been turned to poorly done people/street interaction designs are gonna be here at least 10-20 years. It isn't that a Chick-fil-a shouldn't be in the area, but it shouldn't be allowed as a single use on these growth corridors

If Birmingham was able to get Chik-fil-a to kill its drive thru plans in their Five Points neighborhood there's really no excuse for this to get built on Ponce.

Fortunately some people care less about mega corporations bottom lines than building a neighborhood where people want to live. We need to keep making decisions as a city that makes elevates the quality of life and safety of neighborhoods by adjusting zoning so we don’t have projects like this that slip into high value, high demand areas, and hold back the neighborhood. More jobs and opportunity is brought to a neighborhood with mixed use developments and normal infill over an auto oriented fast food design.

CoA just needs to elevate the ground floor of what can be built in the area. It’s already identified in city design and future land use designations.

No Drive-thrus on Ponce

There are also great streets in many cities that have no drive-throughs. Ponce de Leon is secondary only to Peachtree in prominence. Why wait 20 more years to build a great pedestrian street?

Understood. If I were king, I'd just set very, very low parking maximums - I think the drive-everywhere mentality is what makes true urbanism in Atlanta hard. A one story building covering 100% of the lot would have been exceedingly urban - even if occupied by a Chick-fil-a.

UK-based BrewDog expanding to Atlanta

BrewDog, the international brewery and pub chain based in Scotland, is expanding to Atlanta with a location off the Eastside Beltline.

The brewery will open in spring 2022 at 112 Krog Street NE in the Atlanta Stove Works building.

The building will have 12,000 square feet of retail space and an outdoor area of about 2,700 square feet. The space will feature 28 taps, with a handful of options brewed onsite, and will also be home to BrewDog’s beer school, a two-hour program on the history of the brewery’s beers and how they pair with food.

While I welcome the beer, would’ve preferred a new local venture.

Fox Bros westside is open

Chattahoochee Food Works has a new tenant up and running: Fox Brothers BBQ! They opened on Thursday and it looks like their schedule will be Thu -> Sunday every week. They did a really nice job on the buildout and it tastes as good as DeKalb Ave.

Closed Monday - Wednesday? Not enough foot traffic?
