Not one to post schedules tooo far in advance as things still rapidly evolving around the world but in any event…

Air Canada expanding transborder with recent announcement of borders re-opening:

Flights per week and restart dates…

Vancouver-Chicago 7 effective Sep 7
Vancouver-Denver 14
Vancouver-Honolulu 3 effective Aug 2
Vancouver-Las Vegas 4 effective Sep 7
Vancouver-Los Angeles 21
Vancouver-Maui 3 effective Aug 3
Vancouver-Newark 7 effective Sep 7
Vancouver-Portland 14
Vancouver-Phoenix 5
Vancouver-San Diego 7 effective Aug 1
Vancouver-San Francisco 21
Vancouver-Seattle 14

Other routes such as SJC, SNA, SMF etc restarting later (at this stage anyway)

Hey Johnny. Any whispers about a return to AC's Melbourne - Vancouver run, notwithstanding the current state of vaccinations in Australia, i.e. planning to re-start at a certain date?

^ unlikely at this stage. I think Australia will be far down the list for the next while. SYD will probably return but I wouldn't hold my breath on any other routes downunder for a year. Maybe seasonal flights returning for peak summer and winter but highly doubt any year-round MEL-YVR for awhile. I wouldn't pay much attention to anything the Air Canada schedules indicate for more than a few months out anyway.

Interesting, thanks for the insight. I wonder if my Melbourne friend might try an Air New Zealand option if that comes available.

YVR-MEL already down to winter seasonal before the pandemic hit, so it's likely not going back to year-round for a long long time.

There was overcapacity on YVR-Australia pre-pandemic. This was stated in several quarterly reports by AC in 2019.

They stuck this on their construction page so maybe.

90th anniversary of YVR

Here’s an excellent timeline article of the developments from the 1960s forward…

Amazing thanks! Absolutely loved the design of the 1968 terminal, wish more of it had been preserved, it was absolutely stunning, perfectly symmetrical and had hints of a Mies van der Rohe influence in its architecture. Inside, not so much, very basic Transport Canada materials at the time. The original shape didn't last long as by the mid 1970's the main terminal was expanded north and south for offices which took away the gorgeous curves, then mis-matched hammerheads were added to piers B and C.

Interesting the reason is most passengers are already vaccinated.

TS inaugurated YVR-YQB earlier this month. Strong loads on the first round trip.

LH has resumed the YVR-MUC route 3 x per week so had a quick look at the current intl offerings at YVR - feel free to correct or add if I’ve missed any!

As of this/next week YVR’s intl longhaul network looks something like this (and flights per week):

AC LHR 7
AC NRT 4
AC ICN 2
AC PVG 2 (flights still operate via ICN - operated in addition to the ICN flights)
AC HKG 7

LH FRA 6
LH MUC 3
AF CDG 4
TK IST 3
AI DEL 3 - EDIT: postponed indefinitely
KE ICN 4
JL NRT 3
NH HND 3
CX HKG 2
CI TPE 1 (operates every other week)
BR TPE 3
CZ CAN 1
3U CTU 1
PR MNL 2

Short haul international (other than USA):
AC MEX 5
AM MEX 5

Other airlines such as China Eastern, Air China, Xiamen and Hainan have been operating regular flights but not sure if cargo only or if any are carrying passengers
Air Tahiti Nui and Air France are still using YVR for their PPT tech stops
Korean Air Cargo still operating freighters as well

Sun Country operated a flight to MSP - they were supposed to be starting regular flights - perhaps they have

Still plenty of variety at YVR. Let’s see what September brings!

Wow! It's amazing how much service YVR has even during a pandemic. It's grown so much in the past ten years.

I don't think Air India will be returning anytime soon with the travel ban still in place.

I believe Air China is operating passenger services to and from YVR. Though it's only once a week with a quarantine stop somewhere in China.

Air Tahiti Nui is scheduled to continue using YVR until the end of September but I expect that to be extended with the rising cases in the US. I'd assume Air France will do the same thing as well. French Bee is supposed to return to YVR sometime in the 2nd week of September.

^ you're right Air India is the one that should be scratched. I edited my original post.

I did think Air China and China Eastern were operating pax flights once per week but hard to tell these days. In any event they are still flying to YVR regularly. China Southern also operating cargo only flights on top of the weekly A380 flight from CAN.
Forgot to mention Air Canada also operating plenty of cargo only flights as well.
