The city’s Zoning Review Board on Nov. 12 recommended approval to rezone nearly 20 acres of mostly undeveloped land surrounding Georgia Tech’s existing 11-acre Technology Enterprise Park. The 20-acre addition to the TEP would make way for a 2.2-million-square-foot expansion for new lab and research facilities, office space and apartments. The goal is to create a live-work-play innovation hub modeled after the university’s world-renowned Tech Square while adding 5,000 jobs to the rapidly expanding biosciences and life sciences fields. The City Council is scheduled to consider the project Dec. 7.

Should the City Council give the green light, initial development could start early next year, said Chris Burke, Georgia Tech's executive director of community relations. The entire project is to be phased out over several years with anticipated completion by 2029.

These are marketing materials - we all know projects like these get value-engineered so many times between the initial release of a rendering to the actual construction.

Yes, I have had to teach myself to not get excited about initial renderings anymore - I just get too disappointed in the end in most cases.

Wise choice.

I work in the development industry. Nothing initially released is ever real unless it’s part of filing for the building permit. Half the time the architects send a half-baked plan to China or India and ask them to make a conceptual rendering. So much is made up.

Georgia State University is seeking to buy a piece of property on Auburn Avenue in downtown Atlanta for a new academic building.

The school is proposing to acquire about a third of an acre at 159 Auburn Avenue for $1,850,000.

The Board of Regents of the University System of Georgia is scheduled to consider a deal for the property at its Aug. 10 board meeting.

Selig Enterprises is taking the first steps to expand its Google-anchored mixed-use project in Midtown, according to property deeds and commercial real estate observers.

Selig Enterprises purchased just under seven-tenths of an acre in the shadow of the 410-foot tall office tower for $15.5 million, according to Fulton County Property deeds. The deal closed July 29. Selig Enterprises did not offer details about the purchase but said in an email to Atlanta Business Chronicle "it is continuing its longtime practice of acquiring land near its existing holdings.

It indeed is the same block referenced earlier this year. My guess is that this is the Crescent Place apartments, former home of the '96 Canadian Olympic team. This Curbed article talks about 0.65 acres going up for sale in Feb 2020


*edit - $15.5M for 0.65 acres is $23.8/Acre which is the 4th or so land transaction above $20M in the past year in the neighborhood. Less and less excuses for low-quality design at that price-point.
