This includes a 360 view - maybe it'll help you figure out where they're putting this (none of the articles I looked at said what side of the mall it'll be on).

Yeah that 360° view still doesn't show where it'll be built. My closest guess is that they'll build it near 200 St or Langley Bypass.

They'll likely give out more information about this later at some point.

it's on the North Side. either by the Starbucks or to the west where there is that weird void used for parking.

this was the old plan from 2017, it looks like its been scaled down to the current expansion.

I mean, yes, but this is a skytrain feeder route. It's not that far away that it wouldn't be much quicker to just walk, especially when the future station on Queens Street gets built.

I remember hearing a third station could go at the entrance of the tunnel. Would it be easy to put in a station closer to this development in the tunnel?

Massive housing proposal for Port Moody ramps up pressure for third SkyTrain station for the city
Woodland Park will provide 325 units of non market rental housing, park land, child care and retail, but council also wants to know what it would take to get a third rapid transit station and other improvements to handle more traffic in the area

Information on a third station, where and what it might cost could be available as soon as the new year.

As for a third SkyTrain station, it’s not unprecedented for a city to lobby for another station, with contributions from developers. That’s what the city of Coquitlam did to obtain the Lincoln Station outside Coquitlam Centre shopping centre.

I imagine that it wouldn't be impossible, but it would certainly be needlessly difficult to add a station in an underground segment. The road network in the Westhill area is entirely unsuitable for a proper TOD.

The designated place for Port Moody's third station is at Clarke & Queens, between the switches for the tunnel's lower portal and Moody Centre station:

There's only about six blocks between the location at Queens Street and Moody Centre, so I can't imagine Translink wanting to go ahead with it without considerable density being added in the immediate area. It might make a little more sense in conjunction with the Westport Village project on the former Andres Wines site to the west, but it has been very slow going, much like everything in Port Nimby.

A key difference between this station and the one at Lincoln, however, is that the line is already built, when it had not yet been when Lincoln was negotiated.

The Queen Street station would still be a 20min walk from Woodland Park, not close enough to justify the station for that development. I can see the station happening with the Flavelle Mill redevelopment.

For comparison the distance between stations would be about the same if not slightly more than between Metrotown and Patterson.

This map from Retail Insider says "Food Precinct Area" just to the right of Urban Planet.
Googled Urban Planet Willowbrook and it says "Permanently Closed".

T&T (?) would be off the right side of this rendering behind the new restaurant with the roof deck.

Langley seems like an interesting choice for T&T in terms of demographics. I'm not super familiar with the area around Willowbrook Mall, but it seems like an odd location for the chain.

White Rocks approves 21/24 story towers:

Quote:
“If this was coming before the committee for the first time I would not be supporting it because it is too dense and too far out of the town centre (and) I know our residents are generally not in favour of this tall of a building at that location,” he said. “

“However, it’s time to issue the development permit… and any attempt to try to stop that now is just going to incur unnecessary legal expense that our residents will ultimately pay for.”

“I feel that our hands are tied in this,” said Coun. Scott Kristjanson, who cast the sole opposing votes to the permit in both the committee and regular council.

“But I represent the residents, so I don’t think I can support this staff recommendation.”

Coun. Christopher Trevelyan echoed Kristjanson’s comments that the proposed development is “a beautiful building, but in the wrong place,” but said he would be supporting it because it is incumbent on council members to uphold binding provisions of the Local Government Act.

Coun. Helen Fathers called it a “very complex decision.”

‘This is an especially difficult decision for those members of council who were on the previous council – myself and Coun. Chesney – neither of us supported the development, but…we have to be steadfast in the law,” Fathers said.

“The law is on the side of the developer in this set of circumstances.”

“We’re at the position now where it’s beyond the 11th hour,” Chesney observed, noting that all that council can do is work with developer to “make this a beautiful development.”

While approving the development permit, council also approved two related recommendations from the Land Use and Planning Committee, originally suggested by Manning, and based on environmental concerns.

they are eliminating a big part of Delestre Avenue which helps give them some room. They have already constructed the east west collector which is a new road.

Langley is quite diverse actually, it has large Korean and SE Asian communities, as well as lots of others. It certainly could sustain more multicultural business. And with the Skytrain, it will only increase. Today's Langley is not the Langley of the 80s, that's for sure! Nothing said that more than when they elected an NDP MLA.. in Langley... definitely lots of demographic shifts in terms of age, ethnicity, and family types

The Langley Costco always has a large amount of Korean shoppers and there are a lot of Korean restaurants in the Willoughby/Walnut Grove areas. There is also an HMart with some Korean businesses on Fraser Hwy just west of Willowbrook.
I wonder if T&T will bring in more Korean brands/items to bring more customers in.

Not to jump on you, GeeCee, but I also just wanted to add that non-Asian demographics would also appreciate a T&T supermarket since it brings additional food options for Langley. IMO Metro Vancouver has certainly integrated Asian influences into its own local culture overall and so I don't see why T&T wouldn't work in a relatively populous (read: diverse) area of the region . Heck, I would even be willing to say that it could operate successfully, in the near future, as far out as Abbotsford so long as T&T targets diverse/populous areas.

Not to drag this off-topic: but does anyone else sometimes stroll into a T&T just to try something new? Or is it just me lol?
